Yes it seems to use some clever technology to spot the similarity between language use etc - a bit like Boards use to spot similarities :D

But it's fraud. Buyers will take notice of reviews.

It's getting like ebay. Loads of Chinese sellers repeat listing & lying about the product location.

Fakespot have an excellent add on for Chrome - it's free for basic searches

I came across fakespot recently and thought what a brilliant idea. I then tried it and found it was rubbish.

I fed in a the URL's of stuff I bought and had written good reviews for myself and a large portion of the items showed up as having fake reviews - the products are still perfectly OK I've got them! I then found a load of cheap tat from China with dodgy looking reviews and fakespot said all the reviews were good?

tbh if you can't make sensible buying decisions for yourself and can't spot a fake/dodgy/biased review you shouldn't be buying online.

Look at it another way. If I want to screw over a company I can write a load of good cheesy reviews for their products all on the same day and fakespot will tell the world that there are problems with Amazons reviews of those products.

The site doesn't spot fake reviews, how could it know if someone is lying or not!! It looks for patterns in reviews which could be possibly fake, due to repeated or similar terminology. It is what it is, no guarantees, use it as you will.

I did a similar test & found the opposite. For example most of the Chinese fitness bands had bad results but some were a lot better than others. I repeated with known brands, like Fitbit & they showed good results.

I checked a lot of the reviews that cane up as fake & they would of fooled me.

It also checks for reviewer names. It seems to have good reviews itself.

Your linked item in your first post may not have been a good choice because to me at least its really obvious that most of the feedback comes from shills.

I'm really cynical anyway so start from a "glass half empty" when I read or see any review system. Mention the chinese and my glass is empty before I start. Those guys have no morals and will do anything to make a buck.
