Nice price, but how can you get it delivered to Ireland when they say "This product is only available for deliveries within Germany and Austria"?

Really want to buy one of these off the UK site but do they not work? I read you can just cast Amazon Prime from an app?? Or does Netflix/Youtube work? Not to be asking anything illegal... Just curious before spending :)

Great price but still makes no sense why you can't control your fire stick using Alexa on your echo.

    From https://help.netflix.com/en/node/23934;
Netflix is available on the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick in the US, the UK, Germany, Austria, Japan, and India.
But as Ireland isn't on that list, it won't work here.

Don't see why YouTube wouldn't work. Plex will install on it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,298 ✭✭✭Snotty

Netflix does work on one in Ireland.
Also side loading is very simple, between Netflix and an IPTV account, these are all the TV stations I need in the house.

Need to use a service like mailboxde.com

Got 2 delivered before for under a tenner.

Works well. You can sideload it easily with the illegal content. Comes with Alexa pre installed so that's handy. Netflix and YouTube works grand. Only problem is amazon prime is terrible in Ireland.

I find Fire TV Guru is much easier and slicker than Kodi.

I have the Fire Tv (new 2017 version) and use it for Netflix, Fire Guru, Modbro and YouTube.

I know its already been mentioned but just to 100% confirm that Netflix does indeed work on this straight out of the box in Ireland?

Bought one last Xmas and it was the best 50quid I spent in 2016. Put it on my non smart TV in the bedroom and loaded modbro and showbox on it, that along with preloaded YouTube and Netflix makes it a no Brainer for me.

Yes it does. My wife watches it every day.

You have to get a Netflix account obviously but the Fire stick is basically just a vehicle to get your online viewing from your hub/modem to the telly. The fact that its made and sold by Amazon is irrelevant.

Cheers, thought as much but had read conflicting reports.

Open to correction, but any thing you can download to an android phone, then you can download it to the FireTV. You do need a link to the apk file rather than Google play store, but using the Downloader app, I've got every app I've needed.

I'd believe the reviews given here, but can someone explain what Maplins mean below & what does it mean compatible if you're gonna use it on the telly?

    Thanks
    • Compatible with Fire, Android and iOS devices
N.B. This product cannot be used in the Republic of Ireland

The Fire stick heavily promotes Amazon content but you can't access most of it without a VPN. Apps can be side loaded, but can also be installed directly from Amazon app store, if available.

A lot of people singing it's praises here, but I find it very slow and annoying. You have to dig past all the Amazon stuff to find your content every time you use it. I'm ditching mine for a Xiaomi TV box. Just not worth the hassle IMHO.

just a few things I like about the Fire stick in case some folk are debating getting it, its a no brainer imo at the price.

    BT remote
Can connect BT headphones, handy for keeping the noise down if you're watching a movie.
Spotify connect works, if you somehow have you're tv sound going to stereo speakers, can run spotify from your phone through it.
Kodi and other good apps run fine, not 4k obviously.

I got one a few years ago and picked up another one over the weekend, the new one now has alexa voice remote, though not sure how usefull it is.

Saw on Amazon that the BBC iplayer and 4 players work on it - presumably not in Ireland without a hack/vpn?

Firestick is a great piece of kit for the price.
As earlier there are plenty of tutorials on the web to get it working properly.

Mobdro, Kodi, Netflix, Spotify, IPTV etc all work on the firestick. Bought three of them a last year for family members. Still working great.

I got one a few months back, Netflix worked fine but couldn't watch any of the Amazon stuff as it kept showing an error. I contacted customer support asking why I can't watch Amazon Prime TV on an Amazon streaming device. Was told it will not work in Ireland, but said he would do something for me to get it working. He somehow managed to screw it up even more and now even Netflix wont work.
I contacted them through Facebook saying it is baffling that you cannot watch an Amazon streaming service through an Amazon streaming device. Chuckle Brothers kind of thinking. They said there are no plans to start allowing us in Ireland to start using their streaming devices for their streaming service which they sell here?!?!?

It's not available for delivery to Ireland unless you use a courier. They obviously don't have rights to the Irish market. If you pick these up by workaround, it's not their fault.

I got it through Parcel Motel, the tv streaming service is available here. Primevideo I think they call it, I pay €2.99 a month for it. What puzzled me is that they do not allow the service to work on their streaming devices. My son has a smart tv in his room with the Amazon Primevideo app and works fine through that. I just wanted something to watch it with on main tv as its not a smart tv.

The Amazon stuff all works with a VPN , even the free ones.
STB Emulator is probably the best app to sideloading on for IPTV.
Plex is really brilliant and much better than Netflix if you have a good Plex server to use.

For anyone living near the border, Argos stock it for £24.99.

In stock in Newry at the moment.

I was under the impression Primevideo didn't work here without a vpn, in that case, it is strange why it's not available on the stick.

Prime video we get here is a different service to the one on the stick.

You do know you can rearrange/add app shortcuts to your homescreen? There should be no reason to go digging for anything, you just simply add it to the start of your menus

Never had an issue with the Firestick OS itself, sometimes Kodi can be a bit laggy but you can tune it.

Not sure on the 4 player (thought that worked but not sure) but you definitely can't use the iplayer here without a dns or vpn. You won't even be able to download the apps unless your amazon account is set to the UK.

I have it working on the fire tv box

There is an issue with smart dns services on Éir’s ftth that I’m not sure about
It’s not that they don’t work but the set up is more complicated

I asked a question whether Spotify was available on the stick version as it would be handy in a bedroom for that

But was told that the offer is on until Thurs 30th

I was checking Harvey Norman, they don't look like they sell it either.

    what are the costs anyway?
