Seat Adblue warning

2015 Seat Alhambra 2.0 TDI. Warning light came on for adblue - white warning light saying 1050km range.

The following day the warning light turn amber an warning displayed no engine start in 1000km - topped up with the recommended 10 litres which fully filled the AdBlue tank. Warning light returned to the white 1050km range, even after following instructions to turn key in ignition for 30 seconds and then starting engine to reset.

Yesterday the warning light turned amber again no start in 1000km.

Brought car in to local Seat dealership this afternoon and they advise that they can't clear the Adblue error unless I agree to have the engine system update ran on the car. The engine system update being the emissions recall which I had not intended to have done on the car due to all I have read online mainly saying the poor performance and efficiency of cars that have had this update.

So my question; is this really a reason for them not being able to clear the adblue error - are they trying to make me have this engine system upgrade unnecessarily?as things stand i'm led to believe that the car will fail to start in under 1000klms until this warning is removed from the dash???

I found this on a seat forum. It was also an Alhambra .

A particular AdBlue warning issue where the light won't go off after topping up is commonly caused by the NOX sensor getting contaminated / clogged up. You don't necessarily need a new one to fix the problem.

If you are handy with the spanners then a solution that is reported to have a 50/50 chance of solving the problem it so remove the NOX sensor and clean it. For the sake of a few hours work, giving this a try might end up saving you quite a few quid for a new NOX sensor which aren't cheap.

If this doesn't work then it has also been suggested that it's worth removing the AdBlue injector to clean and de-crystalise it.

There is no guarantee that either (or both) of these will work but I thought I would post up the info as a potential cheap solution to the problem if anyone wants to try it.

With the new Euro6 emission standards, I think we can expect to start seeing the AdBlue system appearing on more and more diesel cars so I do

Let the dealer do it- should be covered under the warranty and if it needs a new sensor better let them fit it now rather than you attempt a temp cleaning job and to need a replacement señsor when you are out of warranty.

Don't worry too much about the update, its seems to be causing trouble with older cars but not the latest ones- if your has ad blue I'd have presumed it wasn't involved anyway?

To he fair I wouldn't go removing and cleaning sensors myself, this will not help, how would a crystallized Adblue injector prevent the car from recognising that the adblue tank is full anyway? It's in warranty, let Seat handle it.

It sounds more like a software glitch that the car isn't registering full, or perhaps the level sender in the tank is out of calibration, it can happen.

The problem with that is to do a software update/ refresh to get it back going correctly, it will bring your engine ECU up to the latest version, which will include that particular update. I wouldn't worry about having the update done on a two year old car at all.

I,de need to put the dealer over it again but they have me led to believe that they can,nt solve the light and warning on dash unless i agree to them doing there recall re the emissions scandal.if i have too let them i will of course, but am concerned on it from what i,ve read re cars post the emissions recall.are they just playing up so as to get me to allow them do the recall issue??

What I posted above was in full a page from a seat forum.I thought I had it in bold and it was just to reassure your issue is not unique.

Let the dealer sort this issue.

As regards the software , thousands have been updated without issue including a work colleague.

The stories you've heard are of course real to these owners but we only ever see reporting about things gone wrong.

Allow them to understand your concern , proceed with the update and hopefully they can easily reaolve the issue.
