    Hey all!

I started a weight loss journey a while back and lost a stone, I'm delighted. I'm aiming to lose another stone, maybe a little more, but not a whole lot. Just looking for some advice:

What's the lowest calorie rice I could be eating?

How can I calculate the exact calories I burn when I cycle in the gym? I saw lots of formulae but all gave me a different answer!

    Thanks in advance :)

    No rice. :p

Joking aside, all rice will be around the same calories. The difference between long grain, short grain, jasmine, brown rice etc is pretty much insignificant.

You can get rice substitutes made from konjac. These are almost zero calories. They are fine on the side of a curry or whatever, but they noticeably different to real rice.

By wearing a heart rate monitor.
All other formula based on speed, or intensity have too many variables to be useful

Thanks so much! I was looking at konjac noodles and rice, where's the best place to get them in Ireland? :)

    Have you tried cauliflower rice?
    Its lower cal.
You can make it yourself by grating a cauliflower and frying it for ten minutes.
Add soy sauce and its very tasty :)

As others have said, not much between them. Brown rice may keep you fully for longer on a similar size portion (as well as other supposed benefits).

Heart Rate Monitor will give more accurate info. There's still debate about how accurate though, as you burn calories doing nothing. It will also depend on your inputs (zones, age, weight etc). I still wouldn't eat to exactly what it says anyway.

Holland and Barrett or local health food shop. Groupon also have great deals but try one pack first to see if you like it. As said its a substitute so doesn't taste quite the same but fine with a good curry sauce or something strong in taste.

Aldi are now doing portioned bags of cauliflower rice that you can cook in the microwave. They do 3 types - plain, parsley and Mediterranean. Super handy! I think they are €0.99 for 2 bags.
