Does the Lone parents get it regardless of how long they have been in receipt of the payment. I know you have to be on Jobseekers benefit for 15 months to get the bonus which is absolutely laughable.

    Do  fas people get it?

No such thing as FAS anymore but ...
    From  http://www.moneyguideireland.com/christmas-bonus-2017-2.html
"It is also paid to most participants on Further Education and Training courses funded by SOLAS.  (you must have been getting your jobseeker’s payment and/or your training allowance for 15 months)"

    Do fas people get it?

I was on a FAS course 2 years ago and didn't get it as i wasn't on welfare over 15 months.

The other 3 lads in my group did get it though.

I think you mean “Community Employment” and yes.
It changed maybe 10 years ago to ce

Those people doing part time work and getting Jobseekers Allowance will usually get any Christmas Bonus in the following week (commencing 4th Dec.)

Does anyone know why illness benefit doesn't get it? It seems unfair but there must be some reasoning behind it.

I don't know the actual reason for it,but yes it is unfair, if anything it is even more unfair to those on maternity.

Illness Benefit is a short term payment so not included in the qualifying payments.
Disability Allowance and invalidity pension are long term .
There is the scenario where an employee could possibly go “out sick” for these 2 weeks on illness Benefit just to get the bonus.

A member of my own family is on illness benefit just under 12 months consecutively now, unlikely they'll return to work due to the diagnosis, their application for invalidity is "running its course" according to the DSP.

This whole 15 months thing is a bit absurd especially for those on JSA as it encourages some, not all naturally, to stay on welfare.

But Welfare could easily apply the 15 month rule to Illness Benefit if the rules were changed.

Didn't realise that. Will have to look into it as I don't think 8 years is short term no matter how you look at it!! 😊 Thanks

If your sending in SW certs for 8 years then you have been overlooked.
If you apply for Invalidity Pension you will get more every week plus Free Travel Christmas Bonus possibly Fuel Allowance possibly HBP (depending on who you live with).

Sounds like a better option alright. Yeah, they just keep asking for a cert every 6 months and that's it.

Partner just got informed by the head of his CE scheme that he doesn't get his bonus until next week - anyone know why that is? He wouldn't divulge, just said it wasn't due this week.

There's been a few issues with a new system, it's possible the details were late coming in to the scheme and so missed this week's payroll process.

Oh Well! We weren't waiting on it, so I suppose it makes no difference! But I wouldn't like to be someone relying on it!

What a ridiculous term for those genuinely in need of help at Christmas. Here's a radical & new idea - why don't the Irish government stop those who know how to abuse the system from doing so & there will be plenty of money in the coffers to support those who really need the help all year around, not just Christmas.

I know plenty of people who are working & claiming unemployment benefit, because they can, I don't blame them, if the system is soft then it's open to abuse. However, it is those who don't want to circumnavigate the rules or those who don't really understand the rules & get no help to make the right claim, that get penalised.

This isn't a rant at the genuine in need or those working long hours, often on zero hour contracts who are left to fight to survive on their own - weed out the spongers & this wonderful country will be a far better place.

There's money being wasted in other areas too. For example, a relative of mine - in poor health, extremely obese to the point of affecting mobility, a chronic alcoholic and regular drug user, doesn't drive. He still has to get the bus to another town once every week to take a course social welfare have pushed him onto. If he doesn't show up, his payment gets cut off. Before anyone start, I've no sympathy - it's self-inflicted, of course. But the course is FULL of people like him. People who will never look for a job, and sure as hell would never be offered one!

I have worked for one of the private companies the Irish government, in their infinite wisdom, employed on vastly inflated contracts to get people back into work. Suffice to say, after what I experienced, I didn't stay long. Symptomatic of penalising those who know no better or who need proper third party support to address their problems before they even consider work.

I saw drug addicts pushed onto Turas Nua without a single thought for their situation. They had been neglected by the system before & then told if they didn't attend they would lose their money. How could I get a current addict into work without firstly addressing the immediate problem?! I saw men & women who had been neglected, in some cases in excess of 10 years+, who couldn't read or write, who suddenly had to learn IT skills or write a CV in order to keep their money - where was the government when these people needed them most, it was easier to neglect them.

Hi ShaShaBear, the training centres pay a week in arrears so that's why anyone in what used to be FAS will get their bonus next week as we're only paying training week ending 24th November this week. I can only assume that the CE schemes are the same.

I was on JSA and then transferred to BTEA for a month but due to personal circumstances I had to return to JSA. As far as I know, I didn't have to make a new JSA claim.

Does this mean that I should have received a Christmas bonus? My JSA claim started the middle of September 2016.
