Yes that will work but 10w40 works better because those focus's tend to burn oil and will go through 5w30 a lot quicker.

Fords of that vintage NEED a special 5W30 semi synthetic mix

Yes they do its what stops them burning it. 10w40 will do in a pinch but it will burn more oil after you use it, it really is critical get their special oil

I owned one of these and was using the proper ford oil but it was going through oil at a fast enough rate. I then started using 10w40 and it reduced the problem significantly.

But it will drastically shorten the life of the engine. In my experience they only burn oil when the incorrect oil has been used for an extended period. If kept on the 5w30 semi mix they use very little but many people don't know or understand and just throw in 10w40 or normal 5w30 fully synth and cause more problems than they fix.

It won't reduce the life of the engine. I was using 10w40 for a long time in mine without any issues. Id have no problem using the genuine ford oil if it didn't burn away so quickly.

Of course it will, 10w40 is not a suitable substitute for 5w30 in any engine, its just too thick. Again the reason it burns away the correct oil is only because the wrong oil was used in the past.... They are quite sensitive to it

    Thanks everyone for your replies!
What would ye recommend as of brand, or is there much of a difference. I kind of want to get the best I can get, while not being overly expensive.

    Thanks again

Think what you like but you wont find 10w40 recommended anywhere and its for a good reason.

I have a 05 Focus with same sigma engine(1.6 auto). I use the oil below for last 50k km and car is at 160k. It doesn't burn any oil.

The 1.6 isn't known to be an oil burner though.
