Water leak alerting

My farm has been plagued with various water leaks over the past few years.  The farm is on free draining soil so leakes are almost always impossible to notice until the annual bill arrives from the council (now Irish Water !) .  I now check the reading on the meter at the roadside once a month or so. A meter that would alert for high usage would ensure early reaction to a leak.  Has anybody installed a water meter which will alert for use above a specified daily rate ?  Nowadays I'd image it should be possible to get a meter that sends readings on a regular basis to my phone (using a SIM card).  Has anybody any experience or advise on this ?

Had similar problem. Replace piping, run them over ground.
