TB Retest Costs.

In the region the parents are farming there has been a number of farms locked up with tb reactors. The nearest farm which is locked up being 3 farms over. We had our herd test during the summer and had no reactors and therefore a clear test. Fast forward to today and a phone call from the department informing us we have 2 weeks to a do a retest.

My query is 1. As the parents have previous undertaken our statutory herd test can we refuse our request.(Surely the result should stand for 12 months)
    2. As they have previously paid for the herd test are they liable to meet the costs incurred as the result of undertaking a second herd test.

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

It’s whats known as a contiguous herd test because there’s a bad breakdown in the area
The department pays for it,your vet will do it
You cannot refuse or the herd will be ‘locked up’and nothing can move in or out ie restricted as if it has reactors

Thanks for the prompt reply, I'll be booking a day off so. As It's been only 3 months since our last test is the above rule still applicable. I know we could query with the department but we may be only be dirtying our bib, may as well play ball.

You can query but best not, just get it done
Unfortunately you may have more before your actual annual herd test is due
We had 3 of them in a 12 month period due to a neighbor going down bad
They’re clear now as are we Thank God

Tb is such a nuisance .we got a reactor last week and now all the neighbours will have to be tested too and seemly we will be tested twice a year now for 2 years .
Not looking forward to it all .
A lot of pssed neighbours now I bet .

Ya, this is an awful dose in Galway nowdays. I had a TB reactor about four years ago and I've had one at least every six months since. Had a clear test in March (fourth in a row) and had to do another in June as a neighbor went down. There are no rules anymore regarding clear periods between tests, they can spring them when every they want.

Your neighbours might be p*ssed off but nothing you can do about it. It could be them next time round. I had three TB tests this year because of neighbours going down. I was clear each time thankfully.
