Absolutely, E - how often on a long, difficult run, or race, did I feel like quitting only to think about how I'd have to report it on the thread, so I'd better keep going. Same could be said on the C25K thread which was the first A/R thread I ever joined. Amazing support. A/R people are just so fab!!!

Cheers folks, I will take it all on board. Very much appreciated

Late to the conversation but same here - I was also late to the novices thread but no way I would have known to run DCM the way I did ‘slow slow slower and then slower again for the first 7 miles’ without Boards.

Rossi, as the others have said build up nice and slowly and get the miles in the legs. If this is your first marathon I wouldn’t be worried about pace or time for a while yet. Just get the body used to regular runs and building up the distance slowly. Also, all the plans have a step back week - I think every three weeks generally so make sure you do that too.

This! If ever there was a case of someone hearing exactly what they needed to hear this was it. :pac: I was made up! :D

I’m now terrified of running Cork on my own this year without somebody telling me how to do it though!!!

Will it be a racier effort? As in all guns blazing for your best possible time? :)

As opposed to blowing kisss and hugging my fans again :D

I’m hoping to go for 4:10 after DCM being 4:20. Cork is more or less flat until well into the second half so it’s hard to know how to pace it as you need to save quite a bit of yourself but then of course the hills will also slow you down. At least in Dublin the hills were done and dusted while still full of energy and nice and slow and could just put the boot down after them.

Saying that - once again my priority will be enjoying it and crossing the line strong and injury free. I never want to be in the horrors going round the course!

Me to N. I never would have done it without Boards. I had thought of it many times over the years but the plan, support, advice and encouragement made all the difference. We were all individuals and yet it felt like being part of a team, that feeling that everyone is rooting for you and not wanting to let them down... Gosh it still gives me goose bumps to think back.. what a journey

    Same here Ariana :)

I'd say it'll be easy enough worked out. You'll have no problem doing 4:10 with 8 months running after DCM. You'll have a ballpark idea of your paces and someone like HBS might be able to offer more specific pacing advice.

I've given up that advice lark. It was far too tiring and frustrating trying to convince ye mad things to slow down....sure ye scared poor El Caballo away from the thread! :pac::pac:

    :)

I think we all did very well, I still run slow! I am looking forward to my run this evening and using my new LSR pace now I have a more accurate base to work from

Have your paces changed much with the new pb?

I have to confess I'm starting to slip back into old ways. I had company on Tuesday evening and ran 10k @ 6:10min/km - McMillan gives me 5:36-6:12 for easy pace so i was at the easiest end of his easy pace range but i was a good faster than Testosterscones ranges. My HR was high, i'd benefit more from running 9km in the same length of time. But it was just 1 run, i'll try to slow down again. I've added a session now and some HM pace miles so it's even more important to keep the easy stuff easy.

Sure didn’t we all slow down!! Though I did speed up a bit yesterday when I knew the weather was about to turn! I was thinking ‘going to get caught on Strava for going too fast on an LSR’ and then was rather pleased with myself when the heavens opened and I was back in the car!

Yes it had me running (mm:ss)
    very easy= 13;32 to 14:31 compared to 12:32 to 13:27
    easy = 13:00 to 13:38 compared to 12:03 to 12:29

Still a lot slower than my LSR pace or even easy pace from before but I have to say I have found hitting paces on sessions much easier and legs feel better when I run my easy runs easy!

That’s a nice change and good that it’s having that effect too when doing sessions.

Still getting emails asking me to buy last year's DCM photos...

Still getting emails asking me to buy last year's DCM photos...

Yes indeed, from "FinisherPix". I find it mildly amusing that I'm still getting emails over three months later, asking me to buy photos from a race I didn't finish. And the first two are still photos of Lazare :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,022 ✭✭✭Kellygirl

Yes me too - and I did buy them!

I met a woman in a DCM 2017 finishers shirt at park run this morning so started talking to her, asking if she'd enjoyed the day. Turns out that she didn't do it, but was at another event and they were just giving them out to people. I felt really disappointed.

Just a quick question for Testosterscone if he's about. I'm about to start week 10 of the 10k-HM plan. Wednesday's session is to be a 10/7/3 threshold cv paces. Is this to be progressive from slower threshold through to faster CV or just pick a pace within the range and do the same pace for each interval?

This are progressive so starting at Threshold and working down to CV pace on the 3 min section.

I’m buzzing after tonight’s run! It was a 40 minute tempo run in my plan. Set up the workout last night on my watch. Used the paces from McMillan and off I went with a friend. I was a bit wary as normally we chat from one end of a run to the other. Anyway it was bitterly cold and couldn’t feel my fingers even in gloves at the start. 10 mins in and the watch told us to go faster. We picked up the pace, stopped talking and booted it around. It felt great. I was in my happy zone and for the most part in the range i’d set on my watch. Was lovely running with somebody like that too. Slow 10 mins back to the car and we were done. Most enjoyable run in a while. I’ve been apprehensive of my runs for some reason lately but this was brilliant! Felt I got my mojo back. This should prob be in my log actually!

It's good to have it here too as not everybody reads the logs. Delighted you had a great run. I felt it yesterday, a real buzz!

It’s what it’s all about. Nice to get that feeling when it’s not even a race.
