So, my sister has asked me about getting Smart controls for her gas heating system similar to my own (Netatmo), but while I know a lot about the technical side of things, I'm less certain about the plumbing side and I don't want to recommend the wrong thing to her. Since some advice would be appreciated.

Her setup at the moment is two storey semi-d. Boiler down stairs, hot water tank upstairs, electric showers, all one zone, when the heat is on it heats both the rads and hot water tank (which also has an electric immersion). I don't think the hw is a separate zone.

One issue she has is the upstairs over heating, what is a comfortable temperature downstairs is too hot upstairs.

So what I was thinking is a Netatmo Thermostat to replace the existing one and Netatmo Smart TVR's for upstairs to create it as a virtual zone.

But I was also wondering is it worth getting the hot water plumbed as a separate zone? Possible? How much would it cost? Worth doing, specially as she uses electric showers?

If she did, then she would have to get Tado instead, as it supports hot water zones, while Netatmo doesn't.

However I cen't find any info on plumbers in the Cork region who might install a Tado setup. Anyone know if anyone does these in Cork. PM me if needed.

And I'm also wondering if this work could be done under the Better Energy Homes grant for advanced heating controls?

    Thanks for any help

I guess you will need Honeywell EvoHome for a perfect zoning separation AND local room based temperature setup and, feedback "back" to the boiler. But,i stand to be corrected...

There is no "advanced heating controls", never heard of ,just plain heating controls, giving you a nice grant of €600.

Yes, Tado can also do the same, Tado TRV's connect to either the Tado Extension or Tado Thermostat and an individual room TRV can command the the boiler/extension to call for heat from the boiler. Same as Evohome, but much cheaper.

Netatmo + their TRV's can also do the same and cheaper again. But Netatmo lacks control of a hot water zone.

So really that is the core question, is it worth getting a hot water zone plumbed in?

Thanks, yes that is the grant I meant.

Thanks did u purchase the system.
Have been looking at all heating control systems and heading in Tado direction.

Maybe an Electrician would install it ?

You could install a HW Zone Valve on the Cylinder therby creating a HW Zone

I would then use Evohome as a Controller its a complete solution very mature and polished and I dont believe "Tado is much Cheaper" as stated and as for Netamo who ever heard of a heating control system that does not do Hot Water is this Link the Norm for Tado starter

    https://www.fruugo.ie/tado%C2%B0-central-heating-starter-kit/p-8499675-18422185?gclid=CjwKCAiA7JfSBRBrEiwA1DWSG_aOPljzCNeIlkuX9AVwyA4oBkiQYZx9gM2CMzK_eDYRUqd-xkf4BxoCbRsQAvD_BwE

Price Tado and Evo and you will see but for Ease of Use for average person Evo is much more User Friendly has a Touchscreen controller works locally without any need for WIfi only need Internet for remote use of Phone app or Browser or Firmware upgrades also has Electric Zone support ie Electric Towel rail or Bathroom Electric UF mat also works with Alexa and other home automation controllers ie Vera etc
