Handing Notice on Sick Leave

    Hi,

I am currently on unpaid sick leave from work and I do not know when I will be cleared to come back. Would it be appropriate/legal to hand in my notice while on leave? From what I know my position has already been filled.

Its not an option to wait around, as I cannot afford the rent or bills at the moment, my wife attends college. So I will be moving home. Would there be an issue if I got a different job with lighter duties closer to home?

    Regards

Of course you can hand in notice. It would be nice if you could organise a handover of duties if possible, but as you're signed off sick even that's not essential.

Job closer to home makes sense.

If you are on sick leave from your current job, would you be fit to work for a new employer?

No issue handing in notice while on sick leave.

Well I'm close enough to fitness and could probably get a job after Christmas. At this moment, the issue would be rent and bills that I cannot pay. So I have to go.
