GMT for me. The extra feature and the red really lift the dial.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

As a fan of purist 24Hr watches I have an illogical dislike of GMT watches so the Ocean 1 for me.

GMT all day, just looks like a nicer layout IMO.
In fact I'll prob be getting one in the new year myself.

One more vote for gmt here. Love me a bit of red!

Still the GMT for me. I owned a a ceramic ocean one a couple of years ago and loved it. Only sold it as I received my speedy a few weeks later so felt I was a one watch man at that time.

It's a fantastic watch but may be the reason I'm more interested in the GMT now as I've scratched the ocean one itch. Either watch will be a great purchase, down to personal preference.

I'll just leave another option here...

There's a GMT without the cyclops on TZ-UK at the moment I think

Where you thinking of buying it from?

When it comes to watches, less is more imho. Both are nice timepieces but Ocean 1 for me anyway. :)

Ah just wondering. Seen watch on Gnomon for $525 . Black Friday deal . It does say world wide delivery but don't see ireland there. Plus I'm sure you will get hit with customs

Ya saw that . good price bit by the time you add customs it works out more expensive . and it seems to be nearly impossible these days to get anything in without being stopped by customs . cheers anyway:)

Voted gmt but Spannermonkey you do make a valid point, a watch is only going to be at 10 to two or 10 past 10 for 4 minutes a day, but the red hand gives it a big lift. Is there any options of a red second hand on non GMT watch?

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

No afraid not and the red really lifts it a lot .

but the shineyness of the numbers and dots between them on the dial of the gmt is putting me off a bit its a bit too blingy. But i dont know if you would notice this as much while wearing it. If the numbers werent as luminous lile in the first pic it would be perfect

Is there any other watch out there i should be considering for say up to a max of €600.

Are you able to wait a few months?

I haven't seen any of Chris Vail's watches in person. You won't see too much negative feedback on WUS either as there are a lot of fans there, have a look in the affordable section there. http://forums.watchuseek.com/f71/

Lots and lots of cool micro-brand divers in that price range, but I don't think you'll find better value for money. If you're not married to the idea of a Rolex homage, there are some more unique designs in that price range for sure. Not sure on the prices, but Maranez, Borealis, Seiko Sumo and Glycine combat sub come to mind. There's probably a Christopher Ward diver in budget, and they're supposed to be pretty good - but for some reason I can't warm to the brand at all.

I don't think I've ever seen them put anything on sale.

Thoughts on the Coke bezel ? Is it too much ? Would it be difficult to sell if i decided to in future ? Maybe just me but kinda liking the red black combo ?

I actually forgot I owned one of those previously - they look great, but I think I'd go for the all black bezel. Especially if the two-tone ones aren't ceramic.

Whats the main difference between the ceramic and aluminium ?

Or why do you recommend the ceramic over the alu

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,263 ✭✭✭✭Eoin

Ceramic is more scratch resistant, but probably more prone to cracking/shattering. But I think it looks better. It's glossier, nicer to the touch and has a nearly liquid look to it sometimes.

ended up buying the coke bezel GMT . bought the black ceramic and pepsi bezels rings as well which gives me options if i want them i can change out the coke bezel :D.
Its a million miles away from anything else i own .i nearly always go for simple face watches like the standard ocean 1 black ceramic. So i thought might as well try something a bit different
cant wait to get them now
    cheers lads

Good luck with it! Word of warning - I am not sure you can change the bezels without breaking the old in the process
