I’m clueless about claiming for tax and knowing what I can claim for.

Could somebody recommend one of those 3rd party companies that can apply for a rebate on your behalf?

    Thanks.

Go onto revenue.ie and use their site.

Where do you work as depending where you may be able to claim flat rate expenses such as uniform cleaning and medical expenses.

If you haven't registered go on and go to sign in section. Then go to register.

They will send out a pin which will be your password for 1st sign in then you select one you will remember. Do it soon as you can go back as far as 2013 but that will be lost very soon as end of year is upon us.

Unless you have a very complex situation, you should do it yourself.

    It's easy.

Thanks for the reply. I am registered with Revenue but I don’t have a clue what to be doing when on their site?

There are videos on the Revenue website and help icons (question marks) to take you through the process.

In general if you are single, haven't been swapping/working multiple jobs in a single tax year and aren't looking for tax relief on medical expenses or any of the reliefs listed below then your tax affairs should be in order. You can request a p21 balancing statement for the last 4 tax years to see if all was in order. The results should be no tax due to be refunded or owed if you're just a standard PAYE worker not falling into the categories above.

If you have been swapping jobs, you may have overpaid/underpaid tax. Request a p21 for each year to figure it out.

If you are married and haven't informed Revenue, read the link below. You may have overpaid tax when you opt for joint assessment.

If you are claiming tax relief on health expenses and have actually paid tax in the year you incurred the expenses, you may be entitled to some tax relief.

Read the links below. The online service is pretty straightforward if you do a bit of reading and give it a chance.

If you get stuck using the Revenue's online system, stick a post up here and we'll do what we can to point you in the right direction...

By the way, if you have correctly paid income tax, and have no tax reliefs to claim, then there is nothing to do.

You only get income tax back if you have overpaid it, or else if you are making a claim for medical expenses, pension conts, etc.
