Riello Oil Burner help needed

Hi, can't figure this out, my burner keeps locking out. I get it started by pressing the reset button on it a few times, I have a tigerloop fitted, eventually it starts, runs continuously until it heats all the radiators but the first time it cuts out after reaching the set temp it wont start again until I go back out and press the reset button again.
Depending how long it is since it turns off dictates how many times I've to press the button but not more than 2/3 times.
    Any ideas?

Thanks, I'll get one and try that👍

its more likely to be the capacitor than the coil

riello burners rarely have coil issues

also a possibility of a tight spot on fuel pump

New fuel pump fitted 2 months ago, didn't need it as there was a leak in the pipe going from the tiger to the burner which was also replaced.

When you press the reset button the first time does the burner motor run for 12 seconds and then lock out? , If so in my opinion its fuel starvation and not a burner problem.First thing id check is if the bypass screw is fitted in the return port of the pump

If the burner motor doesnt run after you press the reset button the first time, then capacitor as jimf said

the burner runs long enough to get the system up to temp dec

so why do you think its fuel starvation ;);)

    Its just a hunch Jimf,
So i asked a question first in my above post and i answered "if so".
    Why the hunch...,
New pump fitted, so 99 percent sure no hard spot on pump
Post 1 "depending out long it is since it turns off dictates how many times ive to press the reset button" Doesnt quite sound like the capacitor.
This sounds to me it needs the pump suction to pull the fuel into the pump
Im probally wrong but im willing to bet a fiver with you:D

You cannot solve problems before firstly confirming it's turned up correctly.

That was what I was thinking but it doesn't just run for 12 sec, runs for ages, maybe a minute or more without firing up then shuts off, you can hear a slight click 5/10 seconds into the initial startup then nothing, fan just keeps running for ages. Second or third time it'll fire up but again that could be 30/40 seconds after I've pressed the button. I'll get the parts already suggested Monday and start from there.

that's a different story leo now its possible you have a faulty photocell

might be best to get somebody with all the parts in the van and give it a good service as well as setting it up properly with a flugas analyser

what area do you live maybe somebody on here can help

What make and model burner do you have?

If an riello rdb burner disconnect the photo cell from the control box.if the motor runs for 12 seconds and fires for 5 seconds, then goes to loclout. then the fault is the "photocell"
If a riello R40 burner, you will have to remove the photocell from the control box,Then the same as above

Quick question as I had a similar problem recently......how much would a photocell cost? Had a look and some were €20 on eBay....but who knows what you'd get...

Get an engineer out, it's an easy fix for someone who knows what they are doing.

Hi OP, I had the same symptoms with my own Riello burner around 2 months ago. A few days later I was finding pushing the reset button was having no effect at all i.e. Replacing the capacitor resolved. I understand it is possible to test a capacitor -I didn't have the means to test it so took a chance and swapped out the capacitor as first step and its been working fine since.

    Hope this helps
