    Hi,

I'm an Irish guy doing some work for an American company as a foreign contractor. I have to fill out a thing called a W-8BEN for the American taxman.

There's a line in the form where I can apply to claim tax treaties between the US and Ireland, but I haven't a clue what those treaties are or what they mean to me. Should I fill that box in or leave it blank? Thanks.

    PDF of the form: irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw8ben.pdf

    Instructions on the form: irs.gov/instructions/iw8ben/index.html
