Hi I Recently bought a Ford focus and the remote key isn't working, it's not the battery and I have tried everything, I've put it in the ignition turn it to 2 4 times in 6 seconds and tried the other way 8 times in 10 seconds and so on checked fuses and all, just not working would anybody have anything else I can try? I don't want to have to spend a lot of money if I go to a Ford dealer it's probably going to cost me?! But if thats the only way i will but first would anybody have any ideas? What could be wrong? The central locking is fine it locks with the key in the door that way just the remote control thing?

You likely have the wrong gem module fitted to the car or it is faulty

Any idea how I would test the gem module or find out which is the problem the gem module or if the key is faulty?

Hi , Basically you need to reprogram the FOB. This involves plugging in the diagnostic computer , going into the setting and programming the key. Instead of going to the dealer , look about for someone private that has this sort of equipment. For instance I use a German guy for this sort of thing .

Same idea from me. A fella down here charges €100. Another idea is bit the tool there is one on adverts for doing it and its only €115 I've taught about getting it so many times lol

The fob on these is reprogrammed using the method the OP is doing, ignition position 1-2 four times on the older model and 8 in the newer model and then pressing a button. If the car doesn't enter programming mode then the gem module is likely either the wrong one or faulty.
Op is your car the face-lift model or the 'old' shape?

There's a module in the headlining(near coutesy lights) that receives the signal from fob, that's what was gone on one I had.
You can modify an ELM327 code reader to check for faults using elmconfig.. it will probably tell you the receiver module and gem aren't communicating and in reality either could be the fault.
    Marty.

Only the old model had that module, the late 2007 on had it built into the gem module itself, need to know which model the OP has as he is I'm the crossover year

I'm unsure but here's a picture, not sure if it goes into programming mode there's a beep sometimes then nothing happens also the key that I have is the older key not the flip key
