MPV - VW Touran or Kia Carens?

Hi, baby number 3 is on the way so we need to get a car with 3 full seats in a row (for 3.5 year old, 2 years & baby, child seats are pretty big).

We have seen lots of options but have narrowed our choice down to the Kia Carens & VW Touran.

Ideally we would like to spend 25k max. There are 152s available in both options for approx 24K.

We're aware VW have a good reputation but we really liked the Carens as well.

Does anyone have any advice based on experience of either?

    Thanks in advance

VW don’t have that good a reputation though.

My sister has a Carens for about 2 years, bought from new. No complaints, none that I’ve heard anyway. Her main criteria were similar to yours - the ability to fit 3 child seats across the back, which not many cars can do apparently. You won’t go far wrong with one I imagine. I think they come with a very comprehensive warranty too. They seem fairly well equipped too - full length panoramic sunroof on her car. Not sure if that’s standard but I doubt she paid extra for it.

The Touran would be based loosely on the current MK7 Golf. So up front it’ll look and feel a lot like a current Golf / Tiguan / Passat. Definitely would feel a bit plusher than the Kia. They’re probably well spec’d now too and finance rates are pretty unbeatable with VW. I don’t believe you’d have anything to worry about in the reliability stakes either. I’m pretty sure SEAT do a Touran equivalent too, that might be worth a look.

The Touran is a bigger car than the Carens and would be more practical. I wouldn't call the Touran plush though, not even in comparison to a Carens. With 3 young kids you do really want things that make life easy. I don't think Seat have an equivalent, the Alhambra is much bigger and more costly, I cant think of another Seat?? Im thinking I'd be inclined to go with the Touran on size alone, but would be aiming for a good test in both with all car seats.

There is a new 5008 hitting the market, which means some older 5008 MPV's will be high stock come January in Dealers, most from 141 on will be facelifted and are a good decent reliable car (if you are able to overcome some perceived bias against the French). The Grand Picasso is also highly thought of, and again the 141 onward (might have been out earlier) is a good car and bigger than those you mentioned, you'd be missing a trick not testing one of those also, perhaps a lot will be coming back on the market after 3/4 years ownership. Congrats on the 3rd!
