    Looking at buying one of these a 220 v one-just wondering can you just plug this into any old socket or extension lead or do you need a special plug

    220v is regular plug like everything in your house.

    Not being pedantic but this is not strictly true. It depends on the load of the appliance.
    However, a standard diy sander would use an ordinary 13amp plug top.
