Can I claim compensation on a flight delay causing me to miss my connecting flight?

I was flying from Stuttgart to Dublin via Frankfurt with Lufthansa. The STR to FRA flight was delayed over an hour causing me to miss the connection to Dublin. Lufthansa rebooked me from the 4:10PM flight to the 9:25PM flight but I was delayed by over 5 hours at Frankfurt airport. They did provide a €10 food voucher.
Can I claim for additional compensation?

looks like it was a very tight a connection at FRA....did they give a reason for the original delay ?

Were both flights booked on the one ticket? Does your travel insurance cover delays and missed *connections* ?

Yes one ticket. Originally it was a 1 hour connection time which would have been ample. The flight was delayed as the inbound aircraft was delayed earlier in the day

So I have sent the request through the Lufthansa website. We'll wait and see.

    Nothing so far anyway.

If the knock on effect was the result of “extraordinary circumstances” you likely won’t be entitled to compansation.

I had a Ryanair flight that was delayed due to the inbound not leaving its departure airport due to fog. EU261 didn’t apply.

I missed a connection from Heathrow because a United Airlines flight from LA was delayed in April or May. They put us on the next flight and gave out £16 food vouchers. Would eu261 apply when the flight was from the USA? Is there a US equivalent? Is it to late to bring it up?

The total travel time was extremely long as a result. 25 hours from arriving in LAX to leaving Shannon. I was pretty tired and overloaded.

It does apply. Ryanair have paid me on something very similar.

Interesting. What were the circumstances of your delay?

Pretty sure it doesn’t apply when it’s a US carrier leaving the USA.
