2 yr old Bosch dishwasher acting up

    Hi,
I'm hoping to get an answer here to a problem . My dishwasher started tripping the RCD last week.. I tried it on the rinse cycle and it worked fine to completion so I'm thinking it was an issue with heating the water!
Roll on this week and I tried putting it on a 45 degree cycle and after 10 minutes it sounded the beeping noise as if it were finished,(the cycle should take more than an hour to complete) I opened it up and the light that has the tap symbol was flashing red. It never tripped the RCD this time!

I looked at the manual and it tells me if the tap light is flashing that I'm to unplug it and ring the number on the D/W..

I did that and was just told that its 95 euro for a man to call out, they wouldn't even let me explain the problem.....

So I'm hoping I can talk to someone here that could let me know my next move apart from handing over 95 quid before I get an answer as to what the problem may be??? Breaks my heart that it cost 600 quid no more than 2.5 yrs ago and now this !!

any help will be most welcome, even a number of an engineer in south/west Dublin

    Thanks

pull out the d/w and tilt it forward as much as you can, have a towel ready as water will come out from underneath stand it up again and run a cycle if its ok you have it fixed otherwise you have a leak that is activating a float switch

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,357 ✭✭✭hawkelady

It's an integrated d/w. How do I pull it out?
    Thanks for the reply btw

you will need someone with the ability to undo the screws etc that keep it in place

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,357 ✭✭✭hawkelady

Ok. Did that. It ran a whole cycle but it used only cold water !!!! What to do next. ? I even tried on the 70 degree cycle , ran till the end but only on cold water !!

Just a guess but sounds like the heater element may be broken.

Anyone know of someone that can repair it without me handing over €95 for starters !!
    Thanks for the replies

If you are running a hot wash with no actual hot water, then it sounds like your element has had it's day and as a result is shorting the electricity. Is the element exposed or hidden, do you live in a hard water area?

I had a similar problem recently with a Bosch dishwasher.
RCB tripped and after that the dishwasher would no longer heat the water.

So it look like the heat pump, I priced a replacement and they are about £130 sterling from the U.K. So add callout and labour to that and you are maybe as well off to replace the dishwasher.
I am in a hard water area, I wonder if that may have been a factor.

You've a 6 year warranty on that regardless of what anyone else tells you-

    http://www.eccireland.ie/ecc-ireland-issues-advisory-on-consumer-warranties-and-statutory-rights/

Not surehow you'll fair out now you've actually taken it apart.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,357 ✭✭✭hawkelady

It is a hard water area alright.
Bosch wouldn't entertain any warranty over 12 months .. I bought it in power city

Who would I go to seeing Bosch and power city are washing their hands of it seeing as it's out of the 12month warranty. Btw, it's not been taken apart , I only did what the other person said ,tip it forward and collect the water ( hardly any) ... it's just washing dishes now using stone cold water.

Bosch have a 2 year warranty as standard though?

Anyway, your contract is with PowerCity, and it's up to them to sort it out, either by repairing it or replacing/refund, however they see fit.

Mention the Sale of Goods Act.

I ended up replacing mine for a Beko.
I recently found out that you can adjust the hardness water settings on most dishwashers, I think it just increases the amount of salt used for each wash.
So hopefully this one will last longer.

Went into power city today and asked them if they could help as the dishwasher is only 2 years one month old... I mentioned sale of goods act too. No joy, €95 call out if you want someone look at it or pick a new one was the options I was given.

When it is cycling through the programme but water staying cold the element has gone faulty, the element is part of the wash pump assembly so the whole unit has to be replaced. Have you rang Bosch service directly (01 4502655) , talk to the service manager if you are not making headway and explain the appliance is only 3 weeks out of warranty , they have to give you a deal . if power city didn't sell you old stock the fd number on the door edge should read something like 9506, bosch will know how old it is from this number

Fd number is 9309. So you know roughly how much is the cost of the part I need ?? It might be a case of ditching it and getting a beko!!

That FD number means it was manufactured in September 2013.

??? So it was sitting in a warehouse for two years ? Is that strange ?

if it is top end model they can lay around for some time before being sold, a new pump is c100pounds stg but if you want to price one ring the likes of Quinns or Exsparetise in Tullamore and they will quote you. I don't know from your posts if you have rang bosch/siemens but I think you should inform the retailer you will have it at their front door pronto looking for refund if you are not listened to, any small claims court should find in your favour for an appliance a few weeks out of warranty

I bit the bullet and called for a repair man to call out next week. Hope it's worth it. I'll keep you posted

My experience with a repair guy last week for our 6 yr old dishwasher

Dishwasher was leaking from the bottom and tripping the antiflood switch. Called a repair guy who works with this brand (out of warranty). Call out was 80 euro, he convinced me that the problem was the internal rotating arms getting stuck and creating a leak at the door, looks plausible, as they did seem to stick. Parts was 100 euro. So 180 euro all in.

2 days later, leak is back. So I take it out and prop it up so I can see what's going on, the leak was coming from the fecking housing around the salt reservoir. So I'm now 180 euro light with a 6 yr old dishwasher still broken. I'm thinking I'll cut my losses and get a new one as no doubt i'll sink another 150 to get his guy back to fix what he didn't fix first time round.

OP, make sure this guy is confident he knows what the source of the problem is.

Christ !! Was he an independent guy or did you ring the d/w company to get him out ??? I'd be calling him up again saying it's not fixed !! I'd snap if that happened me ...

He was a registered repair guy for this brand of dishwasher. I can see how the conversation will go, "yeah it's not fixed but the arms still needed replacing... ill wave the labour but the part is 150 euro..."

However had i been armed with the information that both the arms and this other part had gone i wouldn't have pursued the repair would have just suffered the callout charge.

Under sale of goods act power city are obliged to repair, replace, or refund. Had the same trouble with Harvey Norman earlier this year.

You would have an extremely strong case if you took them to the small claims court.

Definitely get on to Bosch directly before paying for repair yourself.

I did, that's where the repair guy is coming from. They wanted nothing to do with it as it's out of warranty .. they just kept saying it's cost €95 to get a guy to take a look .. they didn't want to know when I was explaining what the issue was , she said she wasn't an engineer so I'm wasting my time explaining it

To be fair, it's not Boschs problem. The sale of goods act applies to the shop that sold the item, not the manufacturer. Therefore it's power city's responsibility.

Power city told me the 12 month warranty was up and if I wanted to try Bosch as they had their 2 year warranty on it. It was a little over two years old and both washed their hands of it. At least I got a "really sorry" line from Bosch. Power city were blatant about having nothing to do with it. I mentioned the sale of goods act to them and all just to see if that would work .. he looked at me as if I had 3 heads .. he said " we will not be fixing this for you" So what else do you think I should have done , ? I'm fuming I have to hand over a ton to get a lad look at it. If the part is more than €150 ... it would have been cheaper to buy a new beko

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,357 ✭✭✭hawkelady

If I can get a reliable lad who knows his way around Bosch dishwashers to call out to me for €60 cash , I'd prefer that option tbh

Do you have the model number of that Bosch hawkelady?

If it were me I'd be going the small claims court route. It costs 25 euro but would be well worth it as its clear that power city aren't meeting their obligations under the sale of goods act. The way you describe the person you delt with at power city would suggest to me that they don't even know their obligations.

Ok , repair guy called today .. was here 15 minutes in total .. he told me the heat pump is gone, all seals need replacing , both sides and door seal .. it'll come in around €300 !!! I said I'd nearly get a new machine with warranty for that. He said fine and he put the machine back together.

I'm raging here as I'm at a loss !! I rang Bosch after he left and let my frustration out .... they said they would ring me tomorrow and they might be able to supply the parts cheaper and I can fit them myself !!! Wtf.
    Never again
