Go to Three and sign a contract, they give you Huawei B525, test that router everywhere and every direction in the house including the attic, try it outside the house in every corner, the higher the better. if you get a good speed inside then the options are to go ahead with them or return their router to them in the cooling off period. and buy the same router from amazon uk unlocked and keep trying either with them with sim only monthly contract, or with vodafone or eir.
If you have a good signal only outside, then buy the following antenna from ebay UK

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3G-4G-LTE-Outdoor-Antenna-for-D-Link-DWR-DWR-118-DWR-921-DWR-952-DWR-953/232293337936?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

Note: the antenna will only help if you have a good signal outside, it behaves as if the router was outside. and it only has 5 metres cable, don't try to buy a longer cable as you loose the signal.
Actually the router will support 4G+. the antenna won't, but I didn't find 4G+ make any difference.

Be very carefull as the cooling off period only applies to Three online purchase & delivery. It does not apply to click & collect or in store purchases. You can return items purchased via click & collect & in store but only if Three accept you are not getting a good signal/speed. What they consider a good signal/speed will differ greatly from what you consider a good signal/speed.

My Understanding is the cooling off period applies to stores as well, no harm asking them, Recently I asked Vodafone store and they said you don't have to give any reasons

AFAIK cooling off doesn't apply in store.
Search "in store cooling off" for some details.
Here's a thread from boards as an example. Some shops may do a "no quibble" policy but it seems to be at their discretion.

That thread is for mobile phone, that is different kettle of fish, Aking before signing is a wise thing to do.

    As has been said before.
YES, you can use that sim card and deal
NO, officially three dont allow it, but they dont stop you

Again a router wont fix contention, so if your neighbours are blasting the cell out of it nothing will help, but if the issue is the quality of the signal between you and the cell it will help. Test outside the house to determine.

If Three aren't taking any actions against that, I will take that as "Don't ask don't tell situation", and that is fine.

Three did not erect a cell for many thousands just for you, there are others on your cell. Anyone within 4 or 5 km of your house using 3 are sharing the same 150Mb as you.
