I would vote for a party who removed the word "bank" from our holidays

Those institutions should be shunned not decorated

Will become a necessary adjustment, along with UBI in the future under our robot overlords.

In France Melenchon (who did fairly well in their '17 election) had some similar tastey proposals:

Cut France's working week to four days (already max'd at 35hrs and yet still more productive than the uk's 39.5) / More vacation days for workers / Raising minimum wage by 16% / Increase the tax on inherited wealth 100% over 400k / Abandon nuclear power; 100% renewable energy by 2050 / No new free trade agreements / Leave NATO, the International Monetary Fund and the World Trade Organization / Nationalize French energy company EDF and gas provider Engie... Surprised he didn't win.

I Definitely believe a four day work week is something that will happen, can’t see it for a while.

Would it sway me to vote for a party, no, not on its own.

Vote in Ireland is al odd thing though because no matter the politics of a party I need to vote for the best local candidate to represent my area.

    Sounds like a great idea.

I really don't see how any political party could bring in a four day week ( or three day weekend).

Businesses will still need the same overall labour hours, so all that would happen is that they will have to hire more people who will earn less money.

Where are these people going to come from?

And how are workers supposed to survive on 80% of their current wage?

Talk of universal basic income is nonsense. We can't afford it.

I find that when you work a 8-9 hour day, you go home and you're too exhausted to do anything anyway. I would much rather just do the 10 hour day and get the extra day off.

In the UK's last election the green party proposed a three day weekend to restore
the health and well being of workers. I think its a great idea.

    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/green-party-three-day-weekend-uk-workforce-stress-exhaustion-four-day-working-week-a7663831.html

Would you vote for a political party that wanted a three day weekend?

Hopefully in future we have universal basic income and robots do all the work :)

Solely on the basis that they had introduced in their manifesto the idea of introducing legislation to promote a three day weekend as a way of encouraging people to rethink productivity and address issues such as ill health and ill mental health?

No, I wouldn't. I'd think if they spent less time daydreaming, they might actually come up with a realistic manifesto which would tackle social issues rather than silly notions about long weekends being a viable solution to anything other than not having the foggiest idea how to run an economy.

Yeah, basically this. Would much rather push on for a bit longer and not work Friday or Monday.

If Sunday night became the new Saturday night, Monday night would just become the new Sunday night, and people would then be wanting the Tuesday off too.

(Replace Sunday with Thursday if you wish)

Pretty much same here. Even 3 stints of 12hrs and 4 days off. I would much rather that.

Not really. I think current weekends are pretty nice length and have a good ratio of work/to day off. A 3 day weekend would be really really nice, and I honestly wouldnt want more than that off. I like looking forward to the weekend, but we all gotta make money

Manufacturing Capitalism was heading that way until the Chinese ate our lunch.

Apple in Cork when it had a serious manufacturing division moved from a 39 hour week with shifts ( which cost them in overtime in weekends) to 3 days of 12 hours no overtime - I think Sunday was off. Either that or 3 day weeks alternated with 4 day weeks.

Wages were changed accordingly but the workers should have earned back the difference in a few years

I did that in one job, three ten hour days, four off but I was part time only.

I worked that for 13 years and it was great. Except half was nights, but the long day shifts with 3 or 4 days off each week we’re nic

I had a 3-day weekend for a few years there. It was great.

I used to work in a job which was 3 15 hour days a week, could alternate around days with colleagues. You could work 6 days straight and get 8 days off but no one ever did as you would be a zombie after day 4 working, first two days of the 8 would be recovery and the last 2 dreading the upcoming 6!
