A friend of mine just bought a one year old kadjar and I noticed when looking at it that inside the rear wheel arch it is lined with a sort of carpet ish fabric but the front ones are plastic or metal lined, is this normal?

    Thanks in advance.

    M.

What colour is the rear arch carpet (RAC)?

Does it match the inside carpet?

Inside carpet from memory is black and inside the wheel arch was a dark grey black, stiff material like soundproofing sort of.

It's definitely not metal or plastic which I would have expected. Especially as it's exposed to the elements.

Dark grey black is close enough to black.

    It should be fine...

Not sure if I made myself clear, the material is on the underside of the car where the tyre sits, so all the mud and water hits it.

    I understood you perfectly.

Once the RAC matches the inside carpet it's fine.

Tell your friend to rest easy.

Yeah that's normal with most cars these days. It can be a bit of a pain to clean them properly tho

Thanks everyone for your replies, I was just confused as I'd never seen a wheel arch lining like that before.

The first car I can remember it being fitted to was the mk1 focus back in 1998 although it didn't really become mainstream on many other brands until the 2000's

Quite a few newer models have that type of wheel arch liner. It's a curse to clean properly.............

Yes there was a big fuss made out of how it was made from recycled bottles or something. Didn’t do much for rust prevention in the end.

It is like a sponge for water retention.
