Broadband Price Inceases

It's seems that since 2013/14 the price of home broadband has increased rapidly.

When upc changed to Virgin in 2015 I was paying 40 euro a month. Side then my price has increased by 15€, 5€ a year! After this latest price increase today I'm thinking of changin.

Eir/Vodafone/Sky have also recently introduced price increases. I was looking at new customer offers with eir and after the discounted period they seem to all be over €70 a month.

Are these yearly price increases sustainable? Where will it end?

How much is everyone else paying? Any recommendations?

Chatting to a friend who is visiting his parents in Denmark who live in a large apartment.

They have a broadband only service (no phone or TV) .....

    250Mb/s Down
    250Mb/s Up
49 Dkr per month (about €6.50 per month I think)
No data limitations (CAP or FUP)

This it must be said, is in an apartment block (1 of 14 such blocks) and not an individual/single house connection.
The provider does the whole block (I guess something similar to some TV service in apartment blocks here).
There are something like 1600 units in the area covered by this.

The benefits of apartment block living I guess.

Nonetheless, €6.50 per month for 250Mb/s symmetrical connection seems to be a great price.

At this stage I cant keep up with the increases, Eir now want €62.00pm for unlimited broadband with offpeak mobile calls for 60min. and off peak call to landline. I don't even use the phone!!

I have now been on hold for 25min to eir, no one answering, web chat cant help and stopped the chat.
As I type I just spoke with someone who informed me the cancellation/loyalty dept. is only open between 9-5.30 !So i have to call back again..arghhhh

So 40min later, I'm no further on.

Can anyone recommend desent good valu broadband provide, please.

    X2
But only for 12 months, then they increase, so if you aren't happy with the price change ISP again, but the transition is smooth

OpenEir jacked the wholesale pricing up by a few EUR in Sept 2016, which means that every provider that uses their lines has to increase.

So, if you look at an Eir/Eircom bill, your landline rental is approx 28 EUR. Broadband will never be any lower than that, if it's provided through an OpenEIR connection.

The only ones, that can beat that, are providers that have their own infrastructure: Virgin, Fixed Wireless Providers, 3G/LTE.

Then you hit the next hurdle. Once a provider feeds the bandwidth out of Dublin to anywhere else in Ireland, they pay 3-10 times as much for that distance, than they would have paid from for example Dublin to Paris. Reason being: Comreg and the Dept of Comms doesn't care, doesn't regulate pricing nor wants cheaper broadband or phonelines for plebs. All they want is backhanders.

So ... take above, calculate it together and then give your local TD a thorough kick in the behind !!!! Hassle Comreg !!!! And get active in lobbying. Maybe .. just maybe ... something may happen. Best to find some dirt on whichever politician is in charge.
