    Hi,

Does anyone know where I can find a list of manufacturer and model with which the C R P 129 is compliant with?

Looking specificially at an old Citroen which 2000 2.0HDi which I believe is not OBD2 compliant as PSA did not have to comply with this until 2004.

Would the tool be backward compatable?

    Thanks.

The 2.0 HDi is fully obd compliant but launch make some fairly crappy tools. Look to Autel instead is my advice

I thought they weren't compliant until 2004. See discussion here: https://frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=26641

What is the Autel equivalent of the CRP129?

They are just fine with OBDII, I have scanned hundreds! If you can get a hold of the older MD802 Elite All systems you will do well. Does every single manufacturer specific system on the car in addition to normal OBDII work. Failing that the MOT Pro is even better but a bit dearer. Seriously the Launch stuff is junk though

I've tried to scan my car last night with an OBD2 reader and it could not connect.
(Similar to this one: OBD2 Reader)

That's a can obd reader for newer cars. There are many protocols in obd, it is not as standardised as you might think. Your Citroën will use the older kwp2000 protocol but an autel will have no issues reading it.

Is this what you are recommending - it seems to have less functionality than the CRP129.:
Autel MaxiDiag Elite MD802 Full System with Data Stream (Including MD701,MD702,MD703 and MD704) Diagnostic Tool

For all these tools are updates free or do you have to pay for them?
What are their lifetime like before they become obsolete - is this an issue?

This is the newer 4 systems model, if you can find an older 802 elite all systems (same unit different software) you will get functionality for all modules. Alternatively get the mot pro which is the new elite all systems replacement.
Updates are free for life on all my ones but I'm not sure is that still the case? I'm up to date right to 2017 so being obsolete is not an issue

I think Launch have some good tools, have the x431 pro and it has very good coverage on all models with updates out almost every week.

Imho Lexia 3 with diagbox loaded on is your best and cheapest option...:)
On the older Pugs it uses Peugeot planet 2000 which was the older dealer
    diagnostics.

Going by ebay/donedeal your talking about around €150 for interface & SW Plus you need a laptop with XP Operating system or afaik win 7 32 bit should also work.
This will do everything possible (Bar remap) on your Citroen/Peugeot..:)

Was hoping to get something for the more modern cars that would have backwards compatibility with PSA for the codes. Are your quotes for the Lexia just for PSA?

The lexia will only do peugeot/citroen vehicles and to be honest its slow and clunky. I almost never use mine because my Maxisys pro does everything it can anyway and is far handier. But it works on all old and new models, right up to 2017

Yes Lexia is only compatible with psa from 1996-2016.
As rex-x has said above the likes of maxisys pro will do the job.

I'd also be looking at Launch x431 pro 3 or even Delphi ds150 which will read/clear fault codes...view live data..Actuator tests..code injectors/keys etc with most makes and Models...:)
