Good an idea and all as they are, if you're into detailing at all, wheel cleaner can leak in behind them and cause streaking and therefore can cause the cleaner to stain wheels depending on what it is.

I didn't think of that potentially happening so sound for the reply. Do you think that would happen with these kind of rim protectors or would it happen anyway regardless?

I would think it would happen with anything like that. If there's double-sided adhesive tape, wheel cleaner can often break down the adhesive and they may fall off.

A few years ago, Vauxhall had them on some special edition Corsas. Somebody I knew had them fitted (by Vauxhall). After two years or so, they started to fall off and the wheel was marked when they came off. It was probably a combination of residual glue and the wheel cleaners staying behind the trim.

In the end, he took them all off and sent the wheels off for a refurb and cursed at them.
