Isn't all Bushmills triple distilled? Does the 26 year old 'taste' triple distilled? I'm not really a fan of that style of whiskey - I much prefer the double distilled method. I'll buy a bottle if I can get hold of one though.

Everything bottled by Bushmills is triple distilled (except the blends, of course), but I believe they made some double distilled stuff under contract for a Japanese company. What was left over was sold to John Teeling.

I can't say if this tasted double or triple distilled. I suppose I can't detect any of the varnish element you can get with triple distillation, but that might disappear after 26 years in the cask. You can also make very light double distilled whisky and heavier triple distilled whisky.

This one is very fruity, but more tropical fruits you'd associate with the Teelings Bushmills. The Cooley, I think, would have a bit more pear drops. That is what I get from Tyrconnell. But who knows. Could be completely wrong. It reminds me of rum cask Bushmills.

That's really interesting - thanks for the detailed post.

I asked in the Aldi in Glanmire in Cork and they said they were supposed to get it but it never arrived.

The guy I spoke to said the last time they had something like this someone came and bought the lot.

Picked one up in the Graiguecullen store (Carlow), and there's still 9 left.

    None in Ashbourne this evening.

Any stock in Meath did anyone notice?

I have reports that it may have arrived in Killarney. I have dispatched a squadron of my best men.

    Edit: Success!!!

There about 6 bottles in Killarney, possibly more.

I'd say Cork and the other counties have them as well. Best of luck in your endeavours.

I got a call from Aldi in Limerick this morning to ask if I still wanted a bottle and one was kept in the office for me which I picked up a short while ago. I could have had more than one if I wanted. Its still not on the shelves though.

I got tempted by the Port too.

Well I can confirm it's very good!

The chill filtration and abv has damaged the finish a bit but otherwise it's great. Superb fruity nose, the full tropics! Nice fruity mouth feel, but lacking steam, well structured oak spices. Then into an abrupt finish unfortunately.

It's very similar to an Adelphi single malt iriish bottling I tried recently, it just doesn't cost 300€ and isn't cask strength.

Recommend! Still in stock in Munster......

Aldi Wilton has stock left but you have to ask. Also port left there

All gone in Tralee, I got 2 bottles, there were at least 10 more earlier today...all gone by late afternoon

I'd echo what Misty said. It's very nice and worth well more than the price but not mind blowing and strangely doesn't have much length.

Pleanty of bottles left in Carrigtwohill Cork last night.

Personally I think people would be better off spending their money else where, piss poor is the best I could say tbh.

Quite the opposite, well worth a lot more than €50...

While it might not live up to people's expectations of a 26 year old malt in terms of finish, it is far from piss poor.

I can't think of any other €50 whisky in Ireland that would challenge it.

Right, would you get this or Redbreast Lustau edition for a tenner more?

  • Registered Users Posts: 883 ✭✭✭Brockagh

I have tasted many, many 26 year old plus whiskies that are not as good as this. I also thought it had decent length.

It's part of a batch of whiskies that everyone in Europe raves about. It is a pity it hasn't been bottled at a little higher strength. It is also, maybe, a touch light. But it wonderfully fruity with some gentle wood spice. A massive bargain.

I think if it wasn't bottled for Aldi, it would be rated much higher.
