Broadband in Balbriggan

    Hi folks,

Does anyone have any idea why my house is the only one in the street that can't receive a broadband connection?

After finally getting the attention of an eir call centre supervisor ( literally had 6 people hand up on me before hand!! ) he said "I don't know really, maybe the exchange is full..."

It's like my house is blacklisted or something, all the neighbours have a connection here in Balbriggan, were only here about 6 weeks so I don't want to be asking to bunk in on there's plus the fact that they probably have poor fair usage limits as they're quite elderly...

It's like a nightmare, literally the only house! (I know first world problems) but still...

Id also hate the idea of having to stick to a mobile broadband limit evey month if I discover a new series

Does anyone know what the craic is I really reaaally need wifi for online college lectures,

    Thanks

    Dan

Could be a carrier line, could be a full exchange, could be a full cabinet. We can't tell you, only sales can.

Try tweeting @OpenEir and asking them, but they wont normally deal with end users (Retailers are meant to tell you)

Sky said they didn't know, Vodafone said they didn't know, Eir passed me around Customer service/sales/tech who all didn't know...

    Hi Dan,

Best bet is locate your nearest cabinet on http://www.openeir.ie/Our_Network/ and click NGA FIBRE BROADBAND NETWORK and take note of the cabinet ID code which is nearest to you. Then use Eir live chat and get them to provide the ID of the cabinet in which you are connected to.

Here is a link in which you can see if your house is supposedly covered where there's an email address if you're unable to obtain fibre broadband.

    https://www.dccae.gov.ie/en-ie/communications/topics/Broadband/national-broadband-plan/high-speed-broadband-map/Pages/Interactive-Map.aspx

An alternative would be Imagine LTE.

Let me know how you get on

    Hi Jeffy,

Had a bit if back and forth with the email you provided, the nearest cabinet is about a 2 minute walk so I was hopefull when they came back and said I should be well able for fibre as it's definitely available etc, they asked if I had tried contacting Eir ( I bit my tongue and said yes,...I have).

However after asking them the million dollar question of why not!? They explained that they can't get involved in a private company's (Eir) business and hopefully I can get connected over the next few years.

    Bizarre.

Did Eircom confirm you're connected to the nearest cabinet? The email I provided is for in the event you're not connected to your nearest cabinet and if Eir refuse to transfer you to the nearest cabinet

As mentioned above - do this:

    https://www.dccae.gov.ie/en-ie/communications/topics/Broadband/national-broadband-plan/high-speed-broadband-map/Pages/Interactive-Map.aspx

It worked for me... got the run around from sales in different companies (all using the same data base in terms of availability... computer says no). An openeir engineer said it was nonsense and gave me the cab number and line stats. Went back to companies with that info... still not interested in looking into it.

Went the dccae route - will all supporting info, got emails offering fibre from all companies two weeks later.

They didn't, I just went straight to the email address after I noted the cabinet number, will be asking eir to confirm that now though, ill get back to you again, cheers.

I thought I was the only one, nice, will be doing what you did asap, did you speak to an engineer in person? Cant see them giving me line stats over the phone. Thank you

They will give you the stats, they have to make you aware of what speed you can reasonably expect.

Let me know how you get on

Do you actually have a line present Dan? Or is this all before installing a line, as if so then its moot as a line rating cannot exist.

Give SIRO address checker a go. They're not live yet but should be within weeks. You'll know if it says 'available at your address" even if no providers are listed.
