Well I'll kick things off with a vote for AA. Things may not have worked out for them on the main stage as we'd hoped but out of these three by far the best. IMO of course :P

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,417 ✭✭✭WinnyThePoo

Huge mark for Luke harper. Never really liked Murphy and Co. American alphas on screen storyline in nxt and matches where awesome.

So my vote go's with AA

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,469 ✭✭✭LeeJM

Im gonna vote for Blake & Murphy because I felt they still had a tonne they could have done as a team. AA had great matches and Gable was great when trying to get JJ to team with him. Harper Rowan are a good team but way too many break ups since their NXT run.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,301 ✭✭✭✭gerrybbadd

    I'm choosing Blake and Murphy.

I thought they worked very well as a tag team, and the addition of Alexa to the fold was a genius stroke.

AA are a close second, but I feel they didn't hold the titles long enough to be considered for contention

Tough one as i think blake and murphy had the better reign but i think the match quality alpha had better matches.

I think for the matches ill go with aa just

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 22,933 Mod ✭✭✭✭Bounty Hunter

    Cheers for the pm Omack

I really like Harper and Rowen (more so Harper) but maybe it's just cos the Wyatts NXT run was one I heard about more so than experienced myself that I find it hard to choose them.

Blake and Murphy seemed like they were going to be great and I liked Alexa being paired with them but once teams lik American Alpha came along I kinda forgot about them as it seemed like the NXT tag division got an upgrade.

American Alpha for me. They are in the top tier of teams I think of when I think of NXT tag teams even if their run might not have actually been as long as I remember. They should be up there with the likes of DIY, The Revival and co in this tornie for me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,881 ✭✭✭Pentecost

Yes got to go with AA too. When they clicked they put on some brilliant matches. I love Alexa but AA didn’t need an Alexa so they get the nod for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,560 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

AA were great in the ring and will always remember Jordan's reaction to winning the title. Plus Gable winning him over throughout the many months

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

American Alpha are the first to book their place in the next round. We've a great mesh of styles in our next three-way tussle.

Ah f*ck. DIY. Have to go DIY

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,689 ✭✭✭sky88

Ahh thats a horrible chioce but diy for me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,881 ✭✭✭Pentecost

Ah GTF Omack (in the nicest possible way!). I had two of these as minimum semi finalists :(

Revival v DIY feud was one of my favourite NXT programmes, I actually literally applauded my laptop for one Takeover match sad as that sounds. I'm going to have to very narrowly pick DIY because their selling, especially Johnny's, was so fecking good you were with them every step of the way. And then Tomasso's turn, god it was perfectly done.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

I loved DIY but I think Revival are the best ever in NXT. They used heel tactics so well and made me hate them in a proper old school heel way. I'm shocked they haven't gotten a vote yet.

    Revival for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,301 ✭✭✭✭gerrybbadd

Revival for me too. I loved DIY but the Revival were just so believable. A real throwback with some modern aspects to their game. That Shatter Machine finisher is epic also.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 22,933 Mod ✭✭✭✭Bounty Hunter

Nobody is voting for the Lucha Dragons here.

It is very possible that if today was the day that the Revival was brought up to the main roster I would vote for them as the shine has somewhat come off them (through no fault of their own) for me since. In NXT they were awesome and 100% made me think or Arn and Tully but whatever it was about them I was always drawn to DIY more. Being totally honest it could just have been that they were faces that made me associate with them more but I can't remember watching a match of theirs that I didn't really love and thats why DIY are getting my vote here. even the end of their tag team was amazing.

If I got to pick who deserves to get to what rd in this tournament I think I would have both in my triple threat final at which point who knows it'd be a different day and on a different day I could have easily voted for The Revival

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

I'm shocked that the Revival have been eliminated. I honestly thought they would walk the whole thing being two time champions! #DIY move into the semi finals. Who will join them there?

Love Sanity, especially the dynamic that Cross adds to their stable and matches. I really can't overlook The Vaudevillains. Their run completely sucked when they called up but their work in NXT was brilliant.

Fairly 50/50 but I'll give it to Sanity due to the fact they've developed on and on with the additions of Damo and Young.

    Sanity.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,301 ✭✭✭✭gerrybbadd

Sanity for me. I hated Gotcha and English. And Graves / Neville always seemed like a filler tag team to me.

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 53,822 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

Have a soft spot for Graves and Neville to be honest. But it would be INSANITY (heh) not to give the vote to Sanity here.

    Never liked the Vaudevillians either.

Sanity. I wasn’t paying much attention to NXT when Graves and Neville were tagging and I never liked the Vaudevillains.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

The final has four has gotten a little unhinged with the addition of SAnitY. We have our last triple threat now as we look to add the last time to the line up.

Sanity already through sky! New match is up.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 22,933 Mod ✭✭✭✭Bounty Hunter

Ascension were soo much better in NXT than on the main roster but this one for me is clear and it's AOP with Ellering. Not sure if I'd have even remembered Grey if he wasn't pictured.

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 53,822 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

Hmmm.. this is a toughie. Ascension were great in NXT. AOP are great full stop. Will definitely transfer to main roster better... probably.
Tournament is about best NXT Tag Champs though, and for that reason....

Gotta go Ascension to be honest. Weren't they champs for over a year?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,108 ✭✭✭ShagNastii

Yeah I'll echo the praise for The Ascension. I loved their whole run in from their time with Bram to their call up.

I was totally cynical to AOP when they arrived but they have certainly won me over.

    The Ascension, just.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,881 ✭✭✭Pentecost

AOP for me I think they’ve been brilliant for two young and inexperienced guys.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,417 ✭✭✭WinnyThePoo

I didn't see much of the ascension to be honest. So I'll go for aop.

AOP for me. The Ascension were great in NXT but AOP are on another level

We now have our final four squadrons ready to do battle. A team well need five votes to advance into the grand finale. Again, looking for reasons for your choice here guys. Here we go with Match 1

Love aop but diy for me everything from them finally getting the win to losing it then breaking up was just perfect

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 53,822 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

Ugh.. this is a hard one as I'm a huge AOP fan (I know I voted against them in the last round)

Have to go DIY though. From start to finish they were great. One of the best examples of how to book a tag team in the last decade imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,881 ✭✭✭Pentecost

I'm going to go with DIY here though I think AOP are stars. DIY brought you on their journey and really sucked you in. They just had that underdog likability and then as said above the turn from Ciampa was perfectly done. Shame he got injured.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

I'm gonna go with AOP on the basis that I expected them to be god awful and they're not. They're very believable and I love how they can be monster heel b*stards or just wrecking balls with no heel/face standing at all.

I love their look, their booking, their theme, their manager and their overall aura.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,301 ✭✭✭✭gerrybbadd

AOP for me too. They were my choice earlier and I chose against DIY in that round.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

So that's 4-2 to DIY, could a come back be on the cards?!

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Music Moderators, Regional Midlands Moderators Posts: 24,135 Mod ✭✭✭✭Angron

Going to vote for #DIY. While AOP have gotten very good, they still aren't quite *there* for me yet. DIY on the other hand, I loved what they did, and even thought the breakup was excellently done. Gargano looked like an ultra sympathetic character, having done stuff like taking a ladder shot for Ciampa, while Ciampa looked like an utter bastard.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

DIY full sail into the grand finale. We now seek to find out who'll meet them there. First to five votes.

Ok. I'm picking American Alpha. I haven't voted for them yet, and have voted for Sanity. However, AA are the team I prefer watching. For this reason alone, they get my vote

Loved AA in NXT. Have to vote for them as a result.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,881 ✭✭✭Pentecost

Yeah AA for me, not even close though I don’t mind Sanity. Loved AA in NXT, they put on some great Takeover matches in particular. Shame what’s happened since they moved up but that’s another story.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 22,933 Mod ✭✭✭✭Bounty Hunter

AA in NXT were a joy to watch and although I'm I the true final was already fought in rd1 between 2 other teams AA are more than worthy finalists.

Actually a fan of Sanity too especially Nikki Cross but there matches haven't really matched up to AAs NXT work with people like the revival.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

Alpha advance to the the final. It sucks that we've only had 12 teams to work with as it makes for a short tournament, in retrospect I should've combined all entered tag teams from the past two years Dusty Classic tournaments for a total of 32 but we're too far in now! Final will go up later on this evening. Hope to see you all there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

And so we reach the final. Two super over babyface teams that are unfortunately no more. All excellent workers with exciting offense and great chemistry together. The only question is, who was better. Most votes wins and becomes your PW Boards NXT Tag Team Championship Tournament Winners.

Only one winner for me diy i just thought the whole story with them coming in and eventually winning the title to there break up i think itsz been tge best story in nxt and its not done yet

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,301 ✭✭✭✭gerrybbadd

Ok, i'm gonna have to flip flop and choose DIY here.

I thought their story was great, executed to perfection. Such a shame Tomasso got injured when he did. It was like a slow build from their initial meeting in the Cruiserweight Classic. They really were best friends too, outside of the ring, so when the turn came, it was shocking. And brutal. Johnny is the ultimate babyface underdog, and he was collossal in his selling, while Tomasso also played his part excellently.

AA are great together. I'm a big Chad Gable fan. J Double, not so much. But they were a great team.

I have to pick DIY though. They had some serious battles side by side, and I feel their breakup is right up there with the Barbershop window - just both are HBK level, there's no Janetty in that team!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,881 ✭✭✭Pentecost

I’ve voted DIY all the way and I’m not going to change now. My reasoning is the same as Gerry’s and similar to what I said in the last two rounds. They were just a brilliant addition to NXT and there’s more to come when they eventually feud.

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 53,822 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

I've been toing and froing on this all day but in the end my vote goes for DIY for reasons already stated above. Not sure if there's much I can add.

    AA were awesome in NXT.

    DIY were better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

This one's unanimous folks. It's one of the greatest stories ever told in NXT and we're not even half way there... It's the Psycho Killer, it's Johnny Wrestling. It's Tomasso Ciampa, it's Johnny Gargano. It's #DIY and they're your PW Boards NXT Tag Team Championship Tournament winners.
