I'd like to buy a 15-20kg bar and 2x10kg bumper plates for a start, is irish-lifting still recommended around here, or any other places I should check out? I'm based in Galway.

I bought a power bar and a solid flat bench off them. Think about 10 years ago, still going strong. I believe the ownership has changed since.

If you're getting bumpers you'll want a bar with bearings or bushings. The cheaper bolted bars don't respond well to being dropped
