Arrived to holiday home yesterday and found these stains around the bedroom Velux window.

When we bought the house a few years ago, there were a few small patches around the window and I didn't worry about them.

We haven't been in the house sine August. We had Hurricane Ophelia and Storm Brian in the meantime.

I opened the Velux window and found a large amount of moss growing at the top of the window, which I removed. The roof is of slates and nothing appears out of place. The ridge tiles/slates appear fine too.

I'm not sure if there's fibreglass insulation in the bedroom ceiling and around the Velux but, if it's there, could it have soaked rainwater in in some way? It's an east facing roof.

A builder is calling on Saturday to look at it but I'm putting it up here to see what you all think.

I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has had a similar problem.

    Photos attached.

I'd say that is a problem with the flashing.

If they're recently installed likely a bad installation. If they're an old installation, and this is just new, perhaps storm damage?

There are drainage channels in some Velux windows too which need to he cleaned if blocked.

Yes, might be flashing. Built about 18 years ago. First day windows and flashing. No problem in any of the adjacent, identical houses. Similar Velux in bathroom with no issue either.

I was thinking a flashing issue also.
