Hi all curious to know which you would choose. A 2013 S line audi A4 or a 2014/2015 high line passat 2L diesel and why?

S Line A4 would visually be more easy on the eye but a Highline Passat would probably be better equipped in most cases. BTW a 2015 Passat could be the older or newer model, the newer model being better again.

Have you looked at the VW CC?

If it's the new model Passat then the choice is more difficult but if it's the older one, then I'd almost certainly go for the Audi.

We got a 2013 A4 last year and we've been very pleased with it. The interior is a lovely place to be, the quality of the finish etc is a fair bit above the Passat (well, certainly that older model Passat). The S-Line trim is easy on the eye too.

The Passat would feel bigger if that's a factor.

It would be the new model Passat.

Have looked at the Passat cc briefly but don’t really know how it differs other than style and price!

Honestly I’m swaying towards the A4 have you had any problems with it?

None whatsoever touch wood. I was a bit apprehensive about buying it as it was a relatively high miler (ex UK company car) but it had a full history and was mint inside and out. Had it serviced last week by Audi and it didn't need anything other than a set of wiper blades over and above the basic service.

The one annoyance I find with it is the pedal positions... the clutch is too far to the right, which makes it a bit uncomfortable to drive in stop/start traffic imo.

The new Passat is a fine car though, so that choice is a bit harder as I said. It'll have some newer tech such as adaptive cruise that won't be in the Audi.

The Passat CC is a nice looker but it's based on the old Passat.

I have heard that a lot of people find the pedals to be very annoying!

I think both cars look amazing, Audi is slightly nicer on the inside but the Passat is two years younger. I assume they would be around the same on fuel consumption.

We have an s-line 170 and a new model Passat and they both have their individual plus points.

The Audi has the styling and a bit of poke so is a much more enjoyable drive. The interior is beginning to date though and the car sits quite low to the ground....not great for motorway/long journeys.

The Passat feels a lot bigger inside. It is far quieter and the new model has stepped the interior quality up again. (Had a previous 2012 model also). Overall though the car just feels a bit dull and boring.

If the Audi the OP is looking at has a low BHP engine, I'd tend to go for the newer Passat. If not, I would chose based on the type of journeys I would be doing. Audi is grand for the shorter ones, but Passat is far better and more comfortable for the longer ones.

I can't agree with you here Joe and in fact I feel the opposite! The A4 looks nicer from the outside but the Passat Highline interior is way ahead especially the quality of plastics. I had a B6 Passat before the A4 and really miss it now!

Any bother with your one? Ours has been back four times (5 soon) for warranty work plus front tyres only last 15K KMS.

Oh god I think the B6 Passat is really very dated now. It effectively dates back to 2005 and it looks it inside and out imo. The infotainment / nav screen is a little dated in the A4 but otherwise I feel it’s a nicer place to be than a B6 Passat.

What kind of problems have you had with the Audi? No issues with ours. Touch wood. Replaced 2 front tyres and a standard service. Otherwise nothing.

The A4 Ascetically is a good looking car but for comfort I'd go with the Passat. It depends on what type of driving you're doing?

I had a B8 A4 with the 136bhp engine and I found it very underpowered. I think the S lines have the 177bhp engine which is nice.....

For resale I think the A4 s line will always command a higher value than a Passat.

You could argue the same for an A4 over a Passat. Horses for courses really.

Saw the 136 Bhp and A4 and the first thing I thought was would it be underpowered, Passat is 140 I think which is probably underpowered too for the weight or is it ok.

Yes have seen the A4 in 177bhp they are a lot less frequent to see for sale tho
