Kadjar gear stick question

    Hi,

I'm renting a Kadjar while my own car is being fixed up.

However, when driving the Kadjar - the gear stick pops back about a cm when its above 2nd and you put the throttle on, and returns when you lift off the throttle.

You can also feel the engine 'throbbing' through the clutch.

As its a rental, I don't really care, but I'm just wondering is this something that is normal for this car? Or have previous renters just bollixed it up?

It is not irregular that the stick will move a bit when you release clutch.
However, I don't know about this particular car.

It isn't the clutch - it is the throttle.

When you press the throttle, the gear stick jumps, when you release, it goes back.

That sounds like an engine mount, but in a rental? I take it it's a 172?

    171.

    Engine mount?

The engine is mounted into the engine bay with engine mounts.
When these get worn the engine will move around as you press the accelerator. Some common signs of worn mounts are noises from the engine bay (clunks) and moving gear stick as you press the accelerator or let go of the accelerator.

Odd if that was the case - the car is only a 171 with less than 30k on the clock

Rented one for a but a couple of months back, don't recall that being a feature! ;)

I do recall it was a hateful yoke to drive, but that's probably a different thread!

The mother in law has bought what I expect to be an ex-rental.

161 Fiesta with 36k km on the clock, from a dealer who is connected with a well known rental agency.

Ah well - what she doesn't know won't hurt her! (until the service bills start to rack up)

I've driven hundreds of Renault at this stage and nearly everyone of them does it. It's not a mechanical problem. It's just something Renaults do

My sister in law bought a new megane in 2015 or 2016 and after 6 months I had as spin and noticed the same she was used to it and it didnt bother her cars still going strong *touch wood and has given her no hassle apart from the norms.

If you did own it in the grand scheme of things its not a big job and its still under warranty.

Some rentals have been well looked after, Just not the ones i've driven :)|

I don’t think Qashqais do that. I remember older meganes and scenic and Clio’s that used to do that alright

Renault have like a 40% stake in Nissan and Nissan have a smaller percentage stake in Renault. I heard that Mitsubishi also joined up with Nissan and Renault. The Kadjar is a Qashqai underneath. For example if you look at the wiper arms on a modern Renault they normally say Nissan on them.

I've never seen a Nissan with that gearstick problem so it must be caused by something Renault do to their cars

Theyre the same car underneath. I doubt they’d engineer in a jumpy gearstick to satisfy the heritage fanboys :)
