Ach don't be so flipping self loathing. The scam is by English backpackers too I see - why didn't she zone in on that also?

    Silly woman.

"Don't open your door to any stranger" would have sufficed. Unfortunately that applies anywhere.

She is not right at all to instil suspicion of anyone with an Irish accent.

Aren't they Irish? I thought most people were against their unique ethnic status.

Not every Irish person is a con artist. People should really think before they open their mouths.

You seem in denial, I'm convinced they were Irish. I'm not in denial of the utter shíte examples of Irish people we have abroad... It's quite embarrassing to be honest, maybe the Taoiseach or President should start sending out apology letters to Australia and across the World!?

Not all, just those with Irish accents knocking on your door offering cheap roofing/driveway work.

Complaining they've ruined our name, but also saying the person in the OP is right to generalize is quite ironic tbh.
Yeah, well, this is what happens when an entire nation founded upon criminality can get to form their own government and call themselves a country. The idea of somebody with an Australian accent of all accents on the planet deciding that somebody with an Irish accent will implicitly be a criminal is further evidence that Australia is a whole nation of stupid racist shít-for-brains yobs. Or, in the colloquial, a nation of completely cultureless, crude, crass, uncouth, ineffably unsophisticated, low-bred knackers. And, of course, you'd be completely mad to open your door to anybody with such an accent. Yeah, Australian politician, what a wonderful deflection from your home grown charmers and their 22 convictions for rape but still walking your streets before they finally get caught for raping and murdering somebody with... an Irish accent:
This racist generalization is equally as idiotic as the politicians blunder

She is not right. The majority of irish people working out in Oz are making significant contributions to the country. You just jave to walk onto any site in Sydney and Melbourne where there are huge infrastructural upgrades and you will here multiple Irish accents 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Frankly, Its a very ignorant and dangerous comment she made. I actually dont take offence to much but take offence to this. Way out of line.

I find it ironic hearing racism from a minority of uninformed Australians. Most are fine as they realise that they are descendants of immigrants too. Australia is such a new country its culture isn't defined yet. The true Australians have been banished into the wilderness.

Uninformed comment. They dont hate us. You will find most are indifferent to whether we are Irish or not. Sure some riff raff went out but the majority are fine who just want to put the head down and make a decent living. I've made some fantastic friends from Australia, Ireland and other nations since I came out here that I'll have for life. We all get along just fine.

"If anybody knocks on your door that has an Irish accent, automatically ask them to leave"

Is it ok for a public figure to say the above or are you unable to comprehend the ramifications of such incompetence?

I worked on a project out here ordered by the Australian Govt cleaning up a mess as financial planners were running amok and taking peoples money whilst giving them no service. I was making good for clients who were wronged ensuring they were refunded correctly. I seen cases where people were duped into handing over their life savings for nothing and took it very personally. Am I still considered a scammer, because apparently if I call to someones door the police should be called?

No, stupid Australians are too thick understand the concept of "trick or treat". Refusing to give the children treats, they soon found themselves tricked out of $4,500 by kids dressed up as Bob the Builder for Halloween.

I was over in Oz before, most of the irish lads over there are good tradesmen. Its irish travellers, are very own little ethnic group of thieves and chancers, that are the doing all this crap. You'd be surprised how many of them are over there. Going around with the rosary beads hanging around their necks, ripping off and robbing people. Great bunch of lads!!
