Hi all, Im collecting a new van tomorrow ( well 4 years old). Does anyone know if I can tax it the same day (1st of the month), if the taxbook is filled out in my name and the seller gives it to me to take? Be handy to tax it asap at the tax office instead of sending it off to Shannon and waiting a week or more. Also, will they tax it with the cvrt disc alone, or will I need the full cert? Thanks in advance

The seller would be crazy to hand the VLC to the new buyer. Only way you could do it in a day would be for the seller to tax it with you and then post off the VLC.

If the name on Vlc is the same as on Motor tax system it can be done.

Seller is known to me, so no bother there.

Why not just get the seller to tax it and include it in the sale price?

Are you taxing as private or commercial?
If commercial get the last owner to tax it for you. It's easier and less paperwork

Best to check the local authority website.
There are requirements which can vary.

If the seller is willing getting him to tax it is your best option.

You can walk into the motor tax office with the VLC and give it to them. They will process the change of ownership and you can tax it here and then.
I’ve done this many times over the years in dublin.

*Commercial V Private tax may pose further issues though as you needs goods declaration etc

Get the seller to tax it for the year saves you having to do the goods only declaration etc until next year.
