Dinny sold his share 2 yrs ago. So we're all free to purchase the stuff guilt free now.... and continue poisoning the planet :pac:

What's the going rate for topaz diesel around Dublin these days? Presume Applegreen is cheaper.
I'd still like to try it out economy wise anyway op so thanks.

Not before he handed a directorship to Biffo so if you have a problem supporting the lifestyle of those who impoverished the country go elsewhere.

As soon as I saw this I knew there would be a silly post like the above.

In the real world (as opposed to your imaginary conspiracy driven world) directorships are not for life. Biffo was stood down as soon as the Canadian company purchased topaz and replaced by their own directors.

I suppose you think elvis is still alive?

I don't think biffo is a director of Couche-Tard who own Topaz.

Edit - he (and all the others) resigned feb 1st 2016

The price of fuel means nothing to me - I just always put 20 euro worth in.

The cheaper it is though, the more you get for your 20 bucks.

Regardless of redacted or Biffo Topaz is consistently the most expensive for fuel prices in Dublin at least. The most expensive Topaz in Dublin can be as much as 10c PER LITRE more expensive than the lowest (in Dublin) which in my view is price gouging and should not be supported. There may be 1 or 2 Topaz stations that are competitive from time to time. The real rip off starts in the shop with grossly over priced sweets and groceries and as long as people keep buying it they will keep doing it.

If you live near to or pass Sandymount in Dublin the Topaz on the Strand road is 1.36 a litre, Applegreen just down the road is 1.33. There is your 3c saved without signing up for their silly games. Funnily enough the cheapest petrol in Dublin was a Topaz on the Rathgar road at 1.31 but they will be beaten by tomorrow I would say. Also Applegreen a couple of years ago were consistently good with their prices but in the last while are more likely to be on the more expensive side.

Oops, sorry, forgot I was on Bargains thread, ill say no more.
(Thanks OP tyson619, no messenger shooting here, no such thing as a bad bargain alert)

I note that you pick on my post rather than the one which suggested a problem with Topaz in the first place. Says a lot about you.
No, of course, like everybody else in Ireland, I don't think that there is any skullduggery going on between politicians and big business. State contracts, planning or the like have never been given to favoured individuals or for monetary considerations. All our politicians, Churchmen, captains of industry are squeaky clean and blameless in all their dealings and despite what you say, Elvis will never die.

Local Applegreen is 119.9 for diesel, nearest Topaz (2 mins) 120.9, used the tag this morning for the 3c off a full 70l tank at 117.9.

I always try to avoid topaz as they are 99% of the time more expensive than any competitors. Even this 3c off still wont make them competitive.

Shameful they have the government contract still for gards/fire engines/emergency vehicles, they dont deserve it!

Don’t move the goal posts, you made a false statement which I corrected.

I quoted your post as I noted that you were the only one who decided to misinform everyone with the usual false conspiracy theory that we see on boards that buying fuel of topaz somehow enriches the “elite”(ff / fg / Denis O’Brien) of this country. That ship has long since sailed and denis is off into the sunset haven made a massive profit after quickly selling on topaz after buying it very cheap from NAMA. Topaz is 100% owned and controlled by a large Canadian oil company.

pay with your AIB credit card and you'll also get €5 back on €50 spend from their rewards programme.

As for whether Topaz are more expensive than others - the 4 nearest stations to me are all Topaz...

There was nothing factually untrue in my post and I don't intend to comment any further on this.
If you choose to bury your head in the sand and ignore the mutual backsplapping and palm greasing that goes on at our expense, that's up to you, I don't and I will do whatever I can within my limited scope of influence to frustrate it. There is no conspiracy theory, the evidence of the underhand dealings between our politicians and big business has been shown time and again and our children and grandchildren will be paying for our stupidity for generations. If you are OK with that, fair enough.

picked up a card in Topaz and bought diesel. No 3c back.

Tried to register my card online - they want my birth date, gender, mobile number, home address, eircode, inside leg measurement; even after giving them all that unnecessary information it craps out with a java error, and trying to register with Facebook gives a different error. Amateurs!

[going off topic, there's really no need for companies to request so much personal information, particularly for something as trivial as a loyalty card. They should only be asking for the minimum necessary to run the scheme - they're just asking for future data protection trouble otherwise]
