A series hybrid. Did not work in Volt really, in the end they had to connect the ICE to the axle to get enough of efficiency.

If the efficiency figures are good, I would be happy driving one to be honest.

    I am the same

I dont care what powers the electric drive train, be it pluggin battery or petrol doesn't bother me, I spend so little on fuel on 12k miles its irrelevant

I just want the the superior driving characteristics of an EV, that instant acceleration, no gearbox.

An E-Power Qashqai with something like 110kw drive from the Leaf with bigger battery and generator, maybe some pluggin capability too.

That would tie me over till full electric is ready after 2020

2018 for EV's is already a write off, with Tesla is big trouble and no batteries from the likes of LG etc for Hyundai/Nissan

Battery outlook is seriously bad for the proper 60kwh packs, they might as well stop EV incentives for a while

    As they are not available

    Hyundai/Kia are targeting 100,000 EVs in 2018.
2017 had the Ioniq and Soul EV.
2018 will be Ioniq, Kona, Soul, and Niro.
Kona and Niro are both targeted at the 320km range.

2018 Leaf's will be based on the AESC (In-House) battery, I think it's 2019 before we will see the extended range Leaf with the LG batteries.

We've done 18,000km in the Ioniq so far this year, 9 months of that without a home charger. The arguments to wait for longer ranges are mostly just excuses.

Hyundai won't be selling many EV's if they have no batteries, those figures will be way below 100k imo for 2018, they have stopping taking orders for Ioniq in some countries its so bad

Nissan like your saying are the only ones with enough batteries to meet demand, only with the inferior and small 40kWh aesc

    https://electrek.co/2017/10/27/hyundai-kia-kona-niro-all-electric-suvs/

Even stories going round that Tesla don't have enough batteries for Model 3, with gigafactory struggling

Batteries are a huge issue and bar Tesla the rest have heads in sand

To get everyone in EV's they are saying we need triple digit gigafactories, at 5-10 billion a pop, thats some investment

Going to be a long while before pure EV's dominate imo,

Series hybrid like Nissan E-Power is a good way to get people used to them anyway

That may be your opinion, however the numbers coming out of Hyundai/Kia group indicate 100,000.

You're article is backing me up :D
In total, with the Ioniq EV, Soul EV and their upcoming new models, Hyundai and Kia are expected to produce 100,000 electric vehicles in 2018.

And nissan sold 30000 e-drive Notes in Japan alone, in last three months..

Fair play to the EDrive Note, it doesn't take away from the fact that saying battery production is in disarray is just wrong.

Cars are planned on 4/5 year cycles. Battery production needs a 2/3 year scale up time. The market is moving and by automotive standards can be said to be moving quite quickly.

Is technology like Nissan's E-Power the future?

Note E Power is in the top 3 best selling cars of 2017 in Japan

Its an EV that has petrol as its fuel source.

Driven by an 80Kwh electric motor, has instant torque and acceleration like an EV,

0-60 sub 8 secs, no range anxiety, drives like an EV

    I would be very interested

    Love the driving characteristics

I told you before, get a BMW I3 Rex for a day or two and you won't want to give it back. ;) Joe Duffy Motors allowed me a 2 day test drive which I greatly appreciated , It really gave me a chance to get a feel for the car.

I too am thinking that the 40 Kwh Leaf just doesn't float my boat and I might give it a miss and get a 2015 I3 Rex if I can find a high spec one. That being said it would be a nice upgrade for any 24 Kwh Leaf owner but it's got about 20 Kwh less than I was expecting especially considering Nissan demonstrated a 60 Kwh of their own battery last year, screw them for getting People's hopes up !

The other issue is waiting until the end of February and that's for the so called premium spec and possibly the SVE or whatever the highest spec won't be available
