Cistern Lever Replacement

The cistern lever on my toilet broke and I need to get a replacement. It's one of the side, paddle-like levers rather than the handle type. The toilet brand is Visions, which appears to be a Shires brand. Is there any difference between brands when buying a replacement lever, i.e. are the holes in the cistern they fit and the levers themselves all a uniform size, or is there something specific I need to look out for? Thanks.

Shires Vision is a long time discontinued.
The only place you might have half a chance of getting one is Smallmans Plumbing Merchants in Ranelagh.

Yeah, I kind of reckoned that a direct replacement was probably unlikely. What I'm really wondering is if all brands are pretty much the same, i.e. would an Armitage Shanks lever, for example, fit, or are there any brands that I should avoid because their sizes are different to everyone else's?

Anyone able to help me with this please? Really just wondering if all brands are the same size and the parts are interchangeable. Thanks.

It depends on the typev of lever you have.
If you could take a picture of the lever and cistern and post it here then it would be easier to advise.

Here's a couple of pictures of the cistern. That's the old lever that broke off resting on it. Thanks for your help with this, I really appreciate it.

    Yes, notorious for breaking..
That exact handle is not available as an original item, but similar can be got on Ebay or through a spare parts stockist in the UK.
    My suggestion is..
Remove the cistern, completely change the flush valve mechanism for a modern unit and fit a push button through the opening where the handle was leaving it easier to maintain / repair.

Hopefully we'll have a bit of money to totally renovate the bathroom in a couple of years, so I think I'll just replace the lever for the moment. By the looks of what you posted pretty much any of them will do the job. Thanks for your help, I really appreciate all the advice.
