I am having problems with slugs, they are even managing to get in the house and leave their little trails on the carpet. Can anybody help to get rid of them for good?

Seems like the most obvious thing to do is to find out where they are getting in and seal the holes. Should be easy enough by following the trail.

Thanks very much Broken Arrows, can you recommend any slug pellets or spray I can put down when I have found their entrance

No real need to put down pellets.
Just seal the holes with some caulking.

If you want to put down pellets do it outside after you have sealed the holes. Slug pellets kill them by causing them to produce an excessive amount of slime and they die of dehydration and you dont want that mess inside your house.

I had a similar problem - for me there was a problem with damp behind the cabinets in one corner of my kitchen, and once I got that fixed up, the numbers started to dwindle, but it was almost as if they had a home there so they didn't die off completely at first. I found it difficult to block all the holes, it's amazing the gaps they can fit through. And the gaps they live in (For example, the base of my toaster, which I eventually discovered  )

I used a lot of bleach spray everywhere (on appropriate surfaces) wherever I saw their tracks. I guess they didn't like that and after some time the numbers disappeared. It's been a month now, so hopefully that's the end of it. Horrible feckers.

Slugs love beer. So if you put a small amount in a container they will be attracted to it. Fall in and die. Pleasantly!
