Electric car home charge

Can some help me with a query on my home charger. When I plug in the car it charges for approx 2 mins and cuts out. Light is blue before plugging in and when it cuts out it changes to red. Is there a quick fix for this or do I need to call out an engineer. Any knowledge would be appreciated. Thanks. Btw! It's a nissan leaf car and from what I can work out from paperwork is its a MTL model charger.

No not tripping anything. Just cuts out and when I pull out the cable and put it back in it restarts before cutting out again after approx 2 mins.

    Have you timer set???

If you press a certain button dash this will override I believe.

Check settings and it should charge away.

Sounds like the timer is set in the car. This is what happens when i plug in my car during the day. It connects for a minute to check there is power then disconnects until night rate starts.

You can disable this via a button somewhere.

No timer set. I can charge in all public chargers no problem. Do you mean a timer on the box?

What are the 3 lights doing on the Leaf when you plug it in? Are they turning on/off sequentially for the 2 mins?

If so, thats normal. It then just waits until the timer in the car activates the charge later that night.

Press the override button to the right of the steering wheel if you want it to charge immediately.

How low is it? Was it in turtle mode?

Leave in for an hour it may be doing a battery balance, but can't say for sure.

Try switching everything off at distribution board... MCB s and reset all.

No. Not waiting for night rate. Beginning to think a sparkie is required.

It was really low when it first happened. We tried again when we had it charged up and same thing. Been like this for few weeks. We'll give your suggestions a go. Thanks.

    Has water got into plug?

Try disconnecting charger cable and make sure no kinks or damage!

Have a look at pins and see if any corrosion as you know with rain and damp could be an issue.

Update on this incase any of you experience difficultly in the future. So, by process if elimination we figured it was the actual home charge point that was definitely the issue. Was going to call out an engineer from the ESB to have a look at it but was putting it on the long finger. As it happens we had a plumber call today to do a few jobs and seen as he knows abit about electrics we asked him to have a quick look at the charge box. He opened it up, sprayed abit of oil around the circuits of the board, closed it back up and hey presto!! Back in action.

    Is this all he did?

Yep! Reckon a bit of damp got in. Oil cleared it.

Very rarely. Possibly once a week. Charge mostly at work.
