    Hi,

I have just recently applied for invalidity pension. I am just wondering what the next stage is and a timeframe of correspondence?

    Thanks in advance

Hi, no it’s just the form, will they send through a report to give to my doctor? How long will that take?
    Thanks

No. I’m assuming you are on Illness Benefit send in a SW cert every week. They will just process your application based on the doctors comments on your original first cert.
So if you want to give them a picture of how you actually are now then you need to send them an up to date doctors report in which he states that in his opinion you will be unfit for any kind of work for at least 12 months.
Feel free to send any other kind of medical evidence you have too and a letter from yourself explaining how you are unfit for work.
Don’t forget to put your PPSN on everything so they know who it’s from.
It’s very hard to get invalidity pension.
You have to make a good case for yourself .

Thanks for the info, yes I am on illness benefit and send in certs monthly. My consultant would of written to social welfare to advise that I should go on monthly.
I thought it was strange that on the form they just ask what is wrong and no other info. Do you think I should wait till they write back or just get the info etc and send it in ASAP? Is there a standard report they look to get filled out or just get the consultation to write one out?
Sorry for all the questions 😉

The questions are no bother at all.
No, there’s no standard report it’s up to you to send as much supporting documentary evidence as you can in support of your application.
SW won’t contact your GP or consultant or anyone else regarding your application, it’s up to you to make a good case for yourself.
Send everything as soon as you have it ready, don’t delay.

Thank you so much for all the info. I will contact my consultant on Monday and see if he will write a letter for me.
    Thank you again

Hi, I received the report request within a few weeks. You will get two reports one for you to fill in and another for your doctor. I asked my consultant to fill mine in. You have 21 days to reply with the information. I read an awful lot about people having to appeal decisions. When filling in the report form use a separate sheet of paper and go into more detail if you can, I am sure this will help. Also get as much info from your doctor/consultant as you can.
I got approved quite quickly but I was told when I 1st applied that it can take months so just be prepared.

    Hope this helps

    Hi,

I have been on Illness Benefit for the past 13 months due to a chronic illness/condition. Do I have to quit my job in order to be eligible for Invalidity Pension?

Well considering that an invalidity pension is for people who CAN'T work, why do you think you'll be able to quit your job to get one?

Hi, no you don’t need to quit your job until you are awarded the invalidity pension. When I got my letter to confirm my application was successful I then handed in my notice with immediate effect.
If you look back at the thread, it’s very important to give them as much information as possible. It can also take sometime to process so I would put in the application form ASAP.

Hope this makes sense and good luck 😉

Thank you for your reply, @zedster.

I had an appointment with my company doctor today. She would like me to think about returning to work in September - three three-hour shifts per week on non-consecutive days. She said I could apply for Partial Capacity Benefit. It sounds like a plan worthy of serious consideration. If I could, I would prefer to hold onto my job.

However, I do not know if there is any safety net for me once I have used up whatever PCB may be available to me.

I am not confident that I will be able to return to work. I have been unable to work for the last 13 months, and there is no sign of an improvement in my symptoms.

I am not too sure how that would work. Do you have a citizen advice close by you could ask? There is a place in the square in Tallaght and I have found them great for advice over the years. I do know that once you get invalidity pension you can work a certain hours per week, with written permission but again I don’t know the ins and outs.

Thank you, zedster. Yes, I think I will have to go down to my local Citizens Advice Bureau.
