Suggestions for new "stylish" car.

A friend is buying a new 181 car and is open to suggestions as to what it may be. Currently driving a standard spec 151 BMW 218d SE coupe with a manual gearbox, similar to this. Annual mileage is 30k kilometres, an even mix of suburban and longer motorway trips.

    Criteria as follows:

    1. Must be "stylish" - opinions will vary of course
    2. Automatic gearbox
    3. Smallish, but not too small.
    4. No "family" cars, 2 or 3 door preferably
    5. Open to diesel, petrol, or hybrid, as long as running costs are similar.
    6. Don't think they're ready for electric only just yet.

Cost to change should be around €12k, or thereabouts.

    All suggestions welcome!

With a cost to change of 12k your looking at cars a lot cheaper than the 218d, these cars are v cheap to import from the U.K so the trade-in will reflect that, especially one with 90km on it.

Maybe a new Honda Civic - though they are really a family car they have more styling that might appeal to your friend

If he is prepared to wait a bit maybe the new Hyundai i30 fastback if it comes here.
I know it has 5 doors but a Toyota C-HR maybe its very stylish and is basically a coupe on stilts that looks great and drives good.

Could look at a Mini they are quite big these days.

    Opel GTC

god going from a bmw to a hyundai is the pits. The interior of hyundai's are plasticky and horrific. I did it before from a 5 series to a Santa Fe and switched back a year later..I bloody well hated driving it.

how about 330e...hybrid and getting excellent reviews..

It was just a suggestion. I remember when BMW,S used to be like that and its not that long ago either. No need to get annoyed over it. They are getting better all the time. They have quite good interiors now and do have soft touch materials in them too. I don,t like the current i30 myself think its very bland just like a VW Golf but the OP might like it.

    Seriously?

No family cars mentioned....Also would you really trade in a BMW to end up with a Skoda....which is just a cheap ass Passat....

Maybe Audi A3 Sportsback or even the e-Tron but probably out of budget

Or you could look at Volvo V40

Or if Hybrid look at the Lexus range....CT200h.....

Of course Toyota but it does depend on you like their interior

A BMW 330e is looking good, after various discounts, rebates, and grants it comes in at €40k. A figure of about €20k trade in for the current car means it'd cost €20 to change, a lot more than the €12k originally mentioned but acceptable I'm told. The Toyota C-HR is also in the running though.
