2007/8 Opel Corsa 1.2 litre petrol. Good, reliable cars, built to last and stylish design. The Fiat Panda is also a good small car if a little bit lightweight. Ford Fiesta and Renault Clio are also worth consideration. Those would probably be the main ones within your budget. The Toyota Yaris and Volkswagen Polo tend to be more expensive. Good luck!!

I would say you’d get the 2008-2017 shape Fiesta within budget

    Ford Fiesta is rock solid

    The Yaris is similar

Do you want to drive auto or manual? You can go auto but then you always have to drive auto...not a huge issue as auto alot more popular now.....

    Any cars you like/don't like?

There is some old style Clio's, 2007 ones, my wife had one years ago and I loved it, you could bomb around in it

    Daihatsu Sirion:

Toyota Yaris running gear underneath except the Sirion has the more refined 4 cylinder 1.0 litre engine. The best of Toyota reliability for Daihatsu money.

Sirion on is 3 cylinder too, that's where Toyota got the engine. (Kinda)
Subaru Justy a good shout too, same car.

When did they switch over to the 3 cylinder engine?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

The first generation Sirion had it in 1998 , so 7 years before Toyota did.

Not the same engine, but related. Daihatsu developed the KR 3 cylinder engine in the Yaris/Argo.

I was under the impression the second generation Sirion kept the 4 cylinder engine from the Mk1 Yaris while the Mk2 Yaris changed over to the 3 cylinder unit?

Nope. The Mk2 used the KR engine, same as the Aygo/C1/107, Toyota iQ, Subaru Justy etc the identical looking Perodua Myvi still used the older 3 cylinder engine from the mk1 Sirion.

It would have to be manual, The Fiesta certainly does seem like a good bet

    Ms

Peugeot 207 is a good reliable car. Hyundai i20 and Kia Rio should be in your price range too.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Not really related at all apart from being developed by the same company. The older engine is completely different and is belt driven.
