Drop in Twitter usage

I've been a long time Twitter user, but have noticed that in the past 2 years my usage has drop to almost zero. Same for several people I know who were early adopters.

Overall, usage numbers have stopped growing, current numbers are even flatter than this chart from last year:

Even though these show almost no growth, I'm surprised that they're not actually negative - from my anecdotal evidence I think people are not engaging there anywhere near as much.

Is it just my peer group who are not using it as much? Or is Twitter dead in the water? What do they need to do to get users back on board?

    Yes.

From a personal point of view, I posted a tweet about a BBC arts news story a few days ago.

Not a screed back of feedback.
Previously I'd receive better reaction or some reacyion

I have always found twitter to be confusing so stuck to facebook (which I find way easier to follow comments, conversations etc.) The young teenagers are all using snapchat as their preferred social media.

With the massive drops in exposure on facebook I notice a huge number now starting to post to Instagram in a similar way to the way they would previously have used facebook.

Well, getting seriously into the Doldrums.

The operative point. Twitter themselves don't have enough knowhow here. And a large part of the teenage presence has moved on to other platforms and won't come back, end of.

The swarms of bots and trolls on Twitter, and their strange attitude towards abuse, makes Twitter a pretty unwelcoming place for beginners I think. I use Twitter now more than ever, but only after a thorough clean out of who I was following and the addition of plenty of muted words. I like that Twitter lets you break a conversation out into strands. I use Twitter for news and funnies and to participate in niche communities, Facebook for family friends and Instagram for inspiration. I'd disagree with whoever said Snapchat for the kids- IG is kicking SC's ass.

SC is used mostly by people under the age of 25 if I remember a statistic I heard correctly. I'd say it's true. People in my age group snap anything and everything. IG is usually the nice profile you have up of your collection of pics, or funny moments. SC is everything from your blanket, tv, to your breakfast and dinner.
