Handing in Notice

Hi. I have been working on and off for my old employer casually for almost a year. It's only when he gets work in which he isn't too bothered about as the company has another area they pursue more. Basically he'd have work one day for a few hours, nothing for a week or two, then two or three days ...... and it was like this from the beginning. I never signed any contract with the company and was just wondering how much notice should I give?

Would you just get paid on the day you work or is it weekly for whatever you worked that week? I think it generally goes on how frequent your pay is, if its weekly 1 weeks notice is sufficient, monthly then you give a month's notice etc.. I'd say if its that casual a week is probably loads!

Get paid weekly. I never received a contract. They were behind on a job and took me on at the time but there were months between periods where I wasn't working.

Okay my employer won't accept my notice. What the hell do I do there?

Tell them this is the day you are leaving and leave.

If it's casual, next time they ring for you to work just say sorry no.

I'm almost curious at how that conversation went.

It's not like a submarine type of situation where you need both people in agreement.

Its more like ...it's like quitting a job where you never even had a contract and barely got work. You simply tell them you are leaving, if you want to maintain good relationships you find a solution that suits both. Usually the same length as a pay period.
Otherwise, you just leave and turn down further work.

Be decent to them, cause it's always cool to be decent, but it's as simple as just not going into that place anymore to work.

Congrats on your new freedom :)

You just don't go to work anymore.

Funnily enough this happened to a friend recently. They not only refused to accept her resignation but asked her to source and interview her replacement...at 30k more than she was on. She was actually considering it, until I advised her it was mad. I told her to look for a finder's fee for the new person
