    2. How do I receive my refund from my landlord? I paid Irish Water bills to them while renting.

    Details on the refund process have not yet been announced as we are awaiting necessary government legislation. Full details on how you can receive your refund will be announced to customers once legislation is passed.

    We would like to thank you for your patience in the meantime.

    3. I have been experiencing discolouration and a strange taste from my water. What can be done about this?

    There are different types of discolouration. White discolouration can be caused by air getting into the water supply following repair work on the network or when a pocket of air becomes trapped in the internal domestic pipework. Aerated water has a cloudy/ milky white appearance.

    Brown or orange discolouration can occur due to a build-up of mineral sediment such as iron or manganese, and may be present for a short while when water is restored following repair works. You can normally resolve this by running the cold kitchen tap for a few minutes until it clears.

    If you wish to report ongoing discolouration or malodour in your water supply, you can send us a private mail with the following details, and we will be happy to look into this for you:

    - Name;
    - Address; and
    - Contact number

    4. Would you be able to let me know what is the water hardness in my area?

    There is no specific limit for water hardness under the Irish Drinking Water Regulations.

    For further information in relation to water hardness, visit our website here. You may also wish to visit our Drinking Water Quality section of the website to see what parameters we test for in your area. This section is available here.

    5. How do I apply to Irish Water for a temporary water connection?

    In order to apply for a temporary connection, similarly when applying for a permanent connection, we advise you visit the Connections section of our website here and submit an application to our New Connections team for review.
