    Hi

Ok the Archer arrived over the weekend and set it up

So took everything out from the virgin hub and put it into the relevant ports on the Archer. Then linked the hub to the Internet port on the Archer. The phone is still plugged into the virgin hub. Then logged into the archer and then changed the channels from Auto and also set up a new Wi-Fi both 2ghz and 5. Then I logged into the virgin hub and disabled the Wi-Fi on this. So router, Modem, Phone and Philips Hub all on the one shelf. Then I tried to login to the Wi-Fi and checked the speed and it was awful. Then I realised I forgot to add the aerials. First I had the aerials standing straight and still not great but then I moved the aerials about. Checked the speeds via speed test apps and was getting over 140 mbs downstairs and close to 200 upstairs this was on the 5ghz. So I got rid of the tp link plugs as Wi-Fi speed better than these connected to TV’s

However for some reason yesterday we could not connect to either Wi-Fi and realised this after shouting at Alexa to turn off the lights. It was asking to login did and nothing. So I did the old turn it off and on again and this fixed it. The reason I bought the archer was to prevent this as we cannot connect to automation apps remotely when this happened with the Hub

Is there any reason that it can drop and anything I can do to prevent this from re-occurring?

Sounds like you didnt bridge the Hub?

If so you're running two DHCP servers and confusing everything.

Nope did not do this and looking at post here seems a bit techie as just followed initial post

Is it easy as just going to google to see how to do it but all I can see is posts on virginmedia community

    Is it easy to do?

Why did you purchase the C9, is it just better wifi performance you want?

That and connection to home appliances ie Netatmo and Philips Hue I could not connect to them remotely and only fixed when I rebooted the virgin hub. I was checking with Netatmo and Philips and was nothing to do with their severs.

If you want NAT control like that then bridging is what you want.

    1. Have virgin turn off DSLite if its on
    2. Reset the hub
    3. Bridge the hub

    4. Then connect WAN of Archer to any one LAN of the Hub and it will then be the boss of the network.

Ok how easy /difficult is this to do. Points one and two ok and 4 is that just connect hub to archer via cable?

    It's point 3 I'm not sure of?

You just login to the Hubs webpage and click a menu. Simple stuff.

You need to get horizon free WiFi turned off on the hub too or bridge mode won't be available.

When you get the hub into bridge mode( the light on the front turns magenta) connect a cat 5e or cat6 cable from the port on the hub nearest the coax cable to the wan port on the C9. My hub is in bridge mode and the only port that works is the one nearest the coax cable. When the hub enters bridge mode it's ip address changes to 192.168.100.1 Log into your C9 and on the internet menu on the left select "dynamic IP" in the drop down menu, click save, give it a few seconds and the C9 is now the boss.

At the moment all wifi coming through the Archer and its linked to Hub and Phone Dect also in the Hub. Philips Hub and Hard wire cable for PC in attic in the Archer

Ok so I follow the below steps

*ring Virgin and get them to turn off the DS Lite on the Hub
*Then once done reset the hub (i.e. turn it off and back on again)
*Login to the Hub via Browser using 192.168.1.1. Can this still be done if I have the Archer linked up already as if I use this I get the archer login details?
*to bridge the Hub where in the menu can I get to put this into Hub mode?
*Currently using the cable I got with the Archer to connect Hub to it should I get a Cat5 /6 cable and use this instead?

Also need to do this at the weekend as more time and with a lot of items in my house dependent on Wifi and Junior crying for food in the background I need to see how long Wifi will be down for during the process.

Don't want to F things up and have to restart all again as wifi went down and with Junior in my hands I could not turn on lights (old fashion way I could but not via Alexa:rolleyes:)

    Cheers

    Cable doesnt matter.

Dont connect the archer until you're finished setting up the hub.

You need to reset, as in factory reset, not reboot after the DSLite removal.

Cable does matter cat5 only allows 100 meg.Op, All the instructions you need are at the beginning of this thread.

The cable that comes with it is 5e, and even 5 at 30cm will do gig. Dont be stressing.

I'm not stressing I have it done already I'm just making sure the op doesn't create a bottleneck in his setup.

    Sound

Have everything set up already to the Archer and Wifi working ok. Virgin said I am on Ipv4 with the hub so does that mean DS Lite turned off? I have set up own Wifi connection using the archer and getting decent speeds.

Take it putting it into Modem mode is the same as bridging? Also have phone connected to Hub so this wont affect anything if I reset it ?

May wait until free house as have to disconnect everything from the archer and follow the steps again and then set up the Archer again and reconnect all the home apps

Yeah, modem mode is whats its called on the hub.

Easy enough to set up to modem mode and getting great download speeds on WiFi

Got rid of the tp link plugs.

Definitely recommend this option and no drop outs.
