Well lads. If I was to replace the hdd in the laptop with a ssd, and I wanted to tranfer the files from one to the other, what would I need to do? Would you need a new os as well?

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

You can buy SSDs that come with a cable and a bit of software that let you clone your old HDD into the SSD. You do that first, and then just remove the HDD and replace it with the SSD and then just boot up. Et voilà! :)

Most drives are sold with the required kit or a one-use voucher for the relevant software, even then there's plenty free online solutions. Very handy job.
