    hi all,

I went into Weirs today to look into getting my Tag serviced.
They told me it would need to go back to Tag who would quote me for the service and the chances are it would be north of 500.
They also said if I decided not to go ahead with it I would have to pay 50 for the quote.

Is this the norm ? IMO there is a fair few watches I could buy for 500, never mind just getting this one serviced!

    Ta

Get it serviced at an independent watchmakers.

It is the norm for premium brands. It will essentially come back as a new watch.

Why are you getting it serviced? Is there an issue?

I got mine serviced by a nice lady by the name of Emily Nerney. It was about 5 yes ago, but I'm sure if you Google her you will get contact info

I had the same story with Weir's and someone recommended her to me. Can't remember how much it was, but must have been reasonable if I can't remember!

Emily had vanished from the radar from reading posts here lately! Absolutely no need to get raped by the likes of weirs with their extortionate charges to send a watch back to tag heuer to get serviced. If it just needs a general service then the likes of watchfix can look after most of the premium brands such as tag, breitling, etc for a general service no problem for a lot less.

If you are stuck, I have a mate in Norrin Iron who is qualified and recently switched out a Tag movement for me.

I got my Tag serviced in Weir's about five years ago. I left it in for a replacement battery. A few days after I left it in, they phoned to say there is some corrosion in the internals, it needs a full service and a new winder. The total was about €350. I told them to go ahead.
When I got the watch back the two hands didn't line up at 12 o'clock (very frustrating!) and the date clicked over at 11:30 instead of 12 o'clock.
I was majorly pissed off with them. In true Irish style I didn't go back to complain.
I now have the tools to replace the battery myself. It costs about €1 every 4 years.
