    Hi all,

1.9tdi 230k miles on clock. Vibration at idle 900rpm, vib goes at 1100 rpm.

Drives fine, no smoke, no drop in power.

Pressing or depressing clutch pedal makes no difference in gear or in neutral.

Had a new luk dmf and clutch about 80k ago.

Any ideas , dmf again? Injector? Engine mount?

Has nct on friday next would vibration at idle be a fail?

    Thanks

Have someone check the engine and gearbox mounts.

Now vibration alot worse and loads of smoke at all revs out the exhaust.

Revs out fine but really rough at tickover.

    What now?

    Could it be turbo?

Doesnt seem down on power though.

I would have said engine mounts too, but something is definite wrong if it now smokes and vibrates at all rpms.

How is oil and coolant levels?
Is the smoke heavy or wispy? It's cold now so cars will smoke a bit because fumes are warm.

Sounds like a worn camshaft issue. Although this is usually alot more common in pd tdi golfs which didn't come out till 2001.

Is there an audible ticking sound which gets more frequent as you move up the rev range?

I'm assuming your golf is either a 90bhp or 110bhp tdi model op?

Also a bad injector would cause similar symptoms.

Finally are you sure the car isn't down on power? because it really sounds like it should be.

No real audible ticking noise like a bearing .

90bhp AGR engine, was heading out the gate for the NCT and it started smoking bad.

Took pipe off air inlet to the turbo and the bearing seems ok , turbo spins free too.

Took intercooler off pipe going into the butterfly valve above the turbo and it had oil in there but not dripping more sticky oil residue.

Breather pipe going into rocker cover clear too..

Cant be sure its not down on power since it got smokey cause i just stuck it back in the yard.

Wanted to get another 6 months out of it.

Best get it to a good yet cheap mechanic to take a look at it so. The agr tdi is a pretty simple engine so it shouldn't take much to diagnose the issue. A worn cam will make a fair racket so I'd say that could be ruled out.

I'm simply guessing but it sounds air/fuel related and gun to head I'd go with probably a bad injector but again it's only guess work.

The injectors are easier accessed on the non pd engines so it shouldn't cost much to check or even diy .

Could a dodgy injector cause lots of white smoke and oil patch on the ground under the exhaust pipe after it was reved a few time while sitting in the yard.

    Thanks for the replies everyone.

    It can on occasion yes.

Any stong smell of diesel around the car? That'd indicate the combustion process wasn't ecactly going to plan.
